Creating a Wireless Access Point

I'm trying to create a wireless access point from my BL laptop.  It has an Ethernet connection being used and I have an Edimax EW-7811Un N150 USB WiFi adapter that I want to use to broadcast a new wireless access point to give Internet access to mobile devices.

I was looking for an easier way of creating a wireless access point than using ancient, vendor-specific versions of hostapd, which are way out of date.

Instead, can I simply use the Create Wifi Network feature in the NetworkManager?  I tried it, and created a new network on the Wifi USB adapter, but it doesn't seem to broadcast a signal the mobile devices can see.
Is that what it is used for?

Re: Creating a Wireless Access Point

i think your reffering to adhoc network..

a way to do this is by, using phcp [for sharing] and dhclient [for connecting ] [i made an error here fixed now smile ]  and setting up a port forrward ... now the issue i had was that .. you can't use the net in both places at the same time it got confused... it was many years ago .. so i'm sure the tech is better now ...

this blerb here can help i bet .. be careful to use Debian paths, should that be an issue for you ..
