live system in cd

I'd like to see the live system on one cd. For all versions. Not only for i386, no PAE. Modern distributions no longer fit on cd. It is sad. Is it possible the emergence of such versions?
Thanks!

the idea here is that if you cannot boot from USB, that usually indicates a very old system, and those tend to be 32bit and non-pae.
i think you should be glad that BL offers CD-sized .isos at all.
many distros don't offer 32bit at all anymore, no matter the size of the image.

just out of curiosity, do you actually have a machine that cannot boot from USB & is 64bit, or what is your reason?

An option that I find interesting, is what the ubuntu installer offers, minimal installation so that after each user install what they need. So you do not have to remove some and put others.

Re: live system in cd

So you can first install the 32bit CD ISO on your system and boot into it. On first-boot, bl-welcome will run, detect that your computer is PAE enabled and offer to upgrade your kernel to one that supports PAE...

say $"Your processor supports PAE, but you do not have a PAE enabled kernel installed.\
Depending on your hardware, a PAE kernel might, or might not, improve performance."
if prompt "Would you like to install one now?"
    then
promptInstall 'PAE Kernel' 'This script will install a linux kernel that supports PAE.' 'linux-image-686-pae' || say 'Continuing in spite of install problem...' 2
    else
        say 'continuing...' 2
fi

So now more than half of your request is fulfilled, you have a computer running a full desktop experience with a kernel that supports PAE.

Converting to 64 bit takes work and might not be worth it, but here is a fairly current walk-through I found. Obviously, use at your own risk...

The debian wiki has a couple of pages but they look outdated.

I don't care what you do at home. Would you care to explain?

Re: live system in cd

Sorry, we have enough to do maintaining 3 versions of BL plus developing our next release without taking on the fairly impossible task of creating a full-desktop, PAE enable, 64bit LIVE CD.

It also raises the question, why can't you use the CD version we have? What are you using your LIVE sessions for?
