Perhaps for watchers in movie theaters or darkened rooms, but these things are clearly purposely lit & filmed to actively prevent watching on a TV screen during daylight hours.  The problem is pretty much industry wide.  I've just about given up trying to watch movies as a result.  The problem doesn't usually arise with old movies before they forgot how to shoot them.

It's a real shame so many movies are ruined by being filmed in the dark.

So, not so much jaded, more ticked off that I can't watch the modern industry's output.

interesting, because i have noticed this too.
but i'm not sure it has to do with cinema, because i see the same effect with netflix series and such. i always assumed it's got something to do with the rips i'm watching, it never occured to me that they were made like that on purpose.

in any case, mpv has contrast, brightness, gamma and saturation adjustment hotkeys - usually it's enough to crank the gamma up without making the film look too washed-out, but sometimes i also increase brightness by just one tick, and very rarely i have to reduce contrast a little.

Two Lane Blacktop (1971)
Laurie Bird, James Taylor, and Dennis Wilson
This is a great movie, and probably the one that I have liked for the longest time.

The film also starred Warren Oates, who played the part well

Re: Favorite Movie Screenshots

I was really enjoying this movie until the end, when Harold Faltermeyer served me the worst outro-song in the history of cinema, "Restless Heart/Running Away With You'. The Running Man (1987)

Brace yourself, this is no game.

Oh no, there goes Tokyo ......

The only time I've seen that particular Godzilla movie was when it was featured on Mystery Science Theater 3000.

Re: Favorite Movie Screenshots

^ It is laughably cheesy, and uses a lot of the same plot and design as Invasion of Astro-Monster (a.k.a. Monster Zero), but hot damn that last scrot of Godzilla is about as epic as it gets.

Re: Favorite Movie Screenshots

Unless you lived in the Uk in the 60's and 70's or experienced the uk mod revival of the 80's you cant really understand how powerful this image is. It's Jimmy, from the film quadrophenia (soundtrack by The Who) - he believed in his culture in his pop culture and thought it was forever but the more he realises today is just a tiny day in history the more he feels alienated and dejected and as though he gave everything to the wrong cause
jimmy.th.jpg
that's him trying to tell his girlfriend he loves her
but to her its all just a flash in the pan
this is at the end of the film when he commits suicide

Re: Favorite Movie Screenshots

^ Give a Sting scrot from that movie? Bellboy? And one with scooters and wide jackets with side-vents, five inches long. Dressed right for a beach-fight. Something something brain.

Source - Was introduced to The Who in 1980 by my close circle of high-school friends, along with Pink Floyd, The Stones, The Doors, Jefferson Airplane, The Police, The Clash, Talking Heads, The Pretenders, B-52s, etc...
