[SOLVED] Openbox Maximize button only to half screen

Pressing Max button in all applications snaps to exactly half the screen. Tinkerred in rc.xml, arandr, obconf, tint2 with no success.https://imgur.com/a/Mm1d9ss

Easier to see here.https://imgur.com/a/gxJqhV1

Re: [SOLVED] Openbox Maximize button only to half screen

Does your conky use "own_window_type  =  'panel'"?

If so, remove the background transparency, and you may find that windows maximize to the edge of the conky.

Re: [SOLVED] Openbox Maximize button only to half screen

Doesn't look like it. Here are own_window entries in conky.

own_window = true,
	own_window_type = 'normal',
	own_window_transparent = false,
	own_window_hints = 'undecorated,sticky,below,skip_taskbar,skip_pager',
	own_window_argb_visual = true,
	own_window_argb_value = 0,

	--own_window = false,
	--own_window_type = 'override',
	--own_window_transparent = true,
	--own_window_hints = 'undecorated,below,sticky,skip_taskbar,skip_pager',
	double_buffer = true,

Re: [SOLVED] Openbox Maximize button only to half screen

Does it happen when the conky isn't running?

Maybe we had better see your rc.xml as well....

Re: [SOLVED] Openbox Maximize button only to half screen

I've tried your rc.xml and I don't have your problem hmm

Do the windows maximize horizontally with right mouseclick on the maximize icon, and vertically with middle mouseclick?

Re: [SOLVED] Openbox Maximize button only to half screen

Weird!

Does doubleclick on the titlebar also toggle maximize?

Perhaps try this workaround (which I can't test for you!):

      <mousebind button="Left" action="Click">
        <action name="ToggleMaximize"/>
          <direction>vertical</direction>
          <direction>horizontal</direction>
      </mousebind>

Re: [SOLVED] Openbox Maximize button only to half screen

So... doubleclick on titlebar maximizes to the half screen. The workaround produced weirder effects and not the desired one. I took it back out.

Re: [SOLVED] Openbox Maximize button only to half screen

Did you both notice strange behaviour of the task bar? It shows up, and then moves a bit right ... or jumps a bit left then right.

While I have no idea what is this taskbar, I would suggest try maximizing window with task bar either fixed (opposite of autohide), or with taskbar switched off. This will diagnose if taskbar makes problem.

If this doesn't, then output of xrandr might show something? (Although, I doubt it ...)

Re: [SOLVED] Openbox Maximize button only to half screen

Are you sure you completely killed the conky?
maybe you even have to reconfigure openbox after that...
anyhow, make really, really sure:

killall conky
pidof conky
killall conky
pidof conky

Because this conky stuff:

Doesn't look like it. Here are own_window entries in conky.

own_window = true,
	own_window_type = 'normal',
	own_window_transparent = false,
	own_window_hints = 'undecorated,sticky,below,skip_taskbar,skip_pager',
	own_window_argb_visual = true,
	own_window_argb_value = 0,

looks a little weird.
I'm pretty sure window type should NOT be 'normal', and transparent should be true.
try sth like this:

	own_window = true,
	own_window_type = 'override',
	own_window_transparent = true,
	own_window_hints = 'undecorated,sticky,below,skip_taskbar,skip_pager',
	own_window_argb_visual = false,

also looked at the <application> section of your rc.xml, i'm pretty sure there's nothing in there that could cause this.
what key- and mousebinds are assigned to full maximisation? tried those?
maybe a left-click on the maximise icon is erroneously configured to do sth else?

Re: [SOLVED] Openbox Maximize button only to half screen

I am using tint2 and disabled the one I had been using. My applications now behave as expected (ie. the maximize button maximizes) So thanks.  I changed some settings using the tint2conf GUI and reenabled. Its all good. Thanks everybody!

Re: [SOLVED] Openbox Maximize button only to half screen

^^ I think the transparency was set to false to test where the conky limits are on-screen.

And "own_window_type = 'normal'" shouldn't make any difference.

For the benefit of others, which settings were causing a problem? And if you could edit the title of your first post and add "[SOLVED]" that would be helpful wink

Re: [SOLVED] Openbox Maximize button only to half screen

In tint2conf GUI under 'Panel' at the bottom I unchecked 'Place panel in dock' and switched 'Panel Layer' to 'Top' and 'Maximized Windows' to 'Fill the screen' I dont know which of these fixed the issue, but...its fixed.
