not sure what happened to brontosaurusrex, but i'm sure they're ok with adding this:
I tend to do a short gnu philosophy session (showing pictures of Stallman and Torvalds) especially pointing out that this is a html5 presentation and not powerpoint. And the importance of free software. The questions are usually in the area of; Will it run photoshop faster?
to add some context, it starts with "how bronotsaurusrex introduces people to Linux:"
so, added and pushed (will take about 10min, I have some weird networking problem atm).

When you have removed all choice and created a uniform system that can be used in one way only, when you have taken that freedom from the developers, too, that's when Linux becomes ready for mass adoption.

I have watched as it goes, & no amount of persuasion, presentations, arguments etc. are going to cause me to like it, any more than they'll make me like avacados (taste like soap), & don't care if the chef did spend many hours carving them into sailing ships, or how dedicated & talented he's alleged to be, avacados are still nasty & so is systemd.
and summary:

I'm sure systemd has good points, I'm sure there were good points to Windows ME, I hated that too.

In a way gnu/nix geek speak can kinda seem a language of its own. Learn enough of the fundamentals (and a bit more) and things that formerly looked like Chinese start making perfect sense.
One day someone looks at geekese and says, ah ok, that's what they're talking about.
I’ve got this horrible feeling that if there is such a thing as reincarnation, knowing my luck, I’ll come back as me!

Belongs in the quote thread, I reckon.
Edit:
For those that don't get the joke - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Finger_protocol@ohnonot, +1. The program was written in 1971, we're not going to get much more ol' skool than that.

it would be better if people made proposals in this thread, instead of the place they found the potential quote. that would also show that they are serious about it and not just joking around.

I liked this. Is it too long?

Welcome, pmra
pmra wrote:So, I guess I'll be annoying everyone here from time to time.
Don't worry, the community is prepared to annoy you back by
showing screenshots and setups that look great on their desktops but for some weird reason not on your own;
showing how they use sofisticated software you never knew existed but now start wanting to learn to master;
expecting you to formulate your question in a clever way, when you really don't know what and why you are actually asking;
asking you to read tons of manuals and offering a multitude of solutions every time you ask a question you think is only short and simple;
derailing and shooting every thread you start in outer space.
In short, the community is so helpful that in times you almost can't stand it.

I was going to suggest this quote as well; if it has to be shortened, I think the first 2 points are particularly true on this forum!
