Re: Vivaldi browser

There isn't really much choice as to what to build browsers on these days, if you want security. Chromium or Firefox was my understanding.

That's pretty much it.  Sad state of affairs really.

Re: Vivaldi browser

You're welcome. Thanks for the VB.
It's not confirmed. Please open the terminal and issue the following command:

vivaldi --user-data-dir="/tmp/TEST-VIV" & <enter>

It runs a temporary and clean install of Vivaldi without messing up the current install. If it runs fine, then the issue lies on your profile folder. In case you need to remove & purge Vivaldi, read it before

Any error message displayed when you start Vivaldi from command line when you open the V menu?

Hi, I didn't expect the clean install inherited the issue.
Disappointed:(
Instructions sent by mail.

During the start-up star-up Vivaldi prints irrelevant messages, like the above:

Fontconfig warning: "/etc/fonts/fonts.conf", line 100: unknown element "blank"
ATTENTION: default value of option force_s3tc_enable overridden by environment.

It would be interesting the core dump to send to the dev's have a look.

Re: Vivaldi browser

Hmm don't think fonts.conf error would cause the browser to crash...must be something else. See what the devs say.

Re: Vivaldi browser

The font config error is irrelevant. Nicky_rr got the email we have to send to every reporter.

It says "erreur de segmentation" which means "segment error" I think in english big_smile
Same with the "right click"
I did both, this is what I getin the terminal:

Re: Vivaldi browser

You didn't run the command below, did you?

  curl https://launchpadlibrarian.net/394835580/chromium-codecs-ffmpeg-extra_70.0.3538.77-0ubuntu0.16.04.1_amd64.deb |\
  tail -c+1075 | tar xJ -C ~ --wildcards \*libffmpeg.so --xform 's,.*/,.local/lib/vivaldi/,'

It's important you answer the question.
Never mind for the HTML5 codecs request, font warning and so on.
The Segfault (segmentation fault) prevented Vivaldi to start-up. It seems you cancelled.
My suggestion: ignore all those message and run the browser. I will ping our Linux wizard to be sure the Proprietary Media needs to be installed first.

Re: Vivaldi browser

Nicolas, you told me by mail the clean install failed. I replied with all the instruction (6 steps) how to get Vivaldi running. Did you get it?
Your issue (VB-47744) is assigned to me.

Re: Vivaldi browser

The program runs, the segmentation fault appears when it closed due to the "right click" or V menu exploration.

No, by mail I said the command failed, I didn't tried the clean install yet, in fact I won't be able to do it for a couple of week as I am leaving (in 10 minutes precisely big_smile) for work without my computer (anyway the connection is very poor where I go so to download things it is complicated). I'll do it when I come back and let you know don't worry.

Sorry for the delay big_smile

Re: Vivaldi browser

Ok, sorry for the interruption, I am back.
I made a fresh install after purging and nothing changed.
I installed after the media thing, it seems working at least, but it changes nothing for my issue big_smile
