^It's important to be concerned regarding closed source stuff, but Jolla is very clear on their policy: "Sailfish OS is the only mobile OS that does not share or monetize your personal data – that is something we can be proud of together!" Jolla has clear - short - policies, not like those silicon valley giants who collect everything with or without consent. Also, Sailfish was audited regarding data protection before signing contracts with foreign telecom providers.
I believe that Sailfish is a good choice (Vivaldi is a good browser, but a bad choice). I'm more concerned about Replicant. That's a great project, fully open source. However the project has limited ressources and its android version is mostly outdated, which unfortunately leads to all kinds of security issues. Apart from that there is not much left, ubports and plasma mobile or some tweaked android roms like Copperheados or Lineage.

are you employed by sailfish/jolla?
Offline
No, just trying to separate good projects from bad ones. And Sailfish is definitely a good one.

maybe not employed, but in the form of bonus points?
500 positive mentions, you get the OS for free?
another 1000, you get a used xperia?

I don't know of any such programs and am not sure that Jolla had ressources for something like that.
Also, I really do not care if someone uses Jolla or something else, but throwing Sailfish with googleverse in the same pot just deservers to be set straight.

which i never did:
i must say, this does not look like a good choice if one wants to escape googleverse and closed source software that transmit who-knows-what information.
fact remains, you only believe that sailfish os is somehow better (than some other mobile operating system).
let me ask this, do you believe that LineageOS is somehow better than, say, android? and if so, why?

That doesn't make much sense: LineageOS is based on Android, in much the same way as BunsenLabs is based on Debian.

^Well said @HoaS, that's the punch line about LineageOS. This is why there are unofficial forks like LineageOS for microG. https://lineage.microg.org

^ i don't need any google services, and it's still android.

+1 for SailfishOS. Constant development, each version is getting better, Android app support is getting better. The choice of supported devices is slightly annoying, but I'm not a hardware person.
I don't understand why the Gemini PDA doesn't get Android support though.
Pricing is fair IMO.
The thing with parts of it being closed source - I see the reasons and have decided to trust Jolla. And you still get a fully accessible and familiar GNU/Linux operating system, I mean how cool is that.
I recently upgraded my HW from Xperia X to a Xperia 10 II, mainly due to the Jolla decision to not update the Aliendalvik beyond 4.4.
I did have some issues with apps refusing to start etc. and had my eyes open for the 10 II as that where the latest addition to the officially supported devices. So with Sailfish 4 on my 10 II, with Aliendalvik support enabled, but no Google Play (...) Android apps that I have tried are working as expected.
My experience is pretty much the same with the Xperia XA2, for almost 1.5years now.
I have not yet found an Android app that wouldn't fully work on my device (except for missing Google services, but I already avoided those on my previous phones).
But there is also only one Android app I really need, namely Signal. All others have SFOS equivalents. Sometimes they're not as comfortable as their Android equivalents, and sometimes they are better in their genial simplicity.
Did I mention I can listen to music & watch videos from my server? Have full access with a simple sshfs command? Yeah, that's the power of GNU/Linux on a mobile device.
Funny, I just found this conversation - Martix is trying to convince me of SailfishOS and I was skeptical about it - now I'm advocating it much the same way Martix did back then.

I found this Sailfish/Jolla playlist yesterday. What do our resident Sailfish experts say, any good?
As for supported devices I miss some 'compact' alternative.

I'm hardly an expert for YT videos. The 1st one seems to have nothing to do with SFOS whatsoever. Sorry.
For some general info - resources are a little scattered.
There is the current forum:

I have seen a couple of the videos in the playlist: not a good intro to Sailfish IMHO. Why bother posting a video of failing to install ending it with: "it should have worked this way".
Thanks for the forum and wiki links.
