[RESOLVED]BL-Helium network manager documentation?

I would like to setup a static IP for my BL-Helium PC.

Can someone point me to the Debian or BL-Helium documents that describe what network manager is being used and how to configure it?

NetworkManager is used in BunsenLabs, it is the exact same tool used by almost all GNU/Linux distributions and the configuration is the same as found in upstream Debian.

It is also possible to use the legacy ifupdown method (via /etc/network/interfaces) but any interfaces listed in that file will be ignored by NetworkManager and so will not be able to be configured from the systray GUI networking applet.

We also have systemd-networkd available if you want to use that, the man pages are an excellent guide (IMO).

Another very unnofficial option would be to use ceni from the siduction repos, it gives you an ncurses terminal for configuring wpa_supplicant.

Whatever you do, make sure you know what you're doing before you remove network-manager. Post if you need help.

I don't care what you do at home. Would you care to explain?

Hi jjanderson5, I've removed the [closed] you added to the topic title. Closing a thread is something that only moderators can do, and [closed] would indicate that no more posts were possible. This thread is still open, but if, for the benefit of people who read this later, you want to indicate that you resolved your issue then you could add [SOLVED] or [DONE] ... or pretty much anything except [closed]. smile

@johnraff

Thanks for letting me know that. No sure why I marked it as closed, as opposed to resolved, which is what I usually use. I was not even thinking about it. I will make a mental note of that.

Re: [RESOLVED]BL-Helium network manager documentation?

A Happy Note:

I went through the documentation and have a better understanding of the Bensenlabs networking environment. Thanks for the help!

Also, note that I now have a static address ethernet port working. Well, at least partially working, but I will take latest issue to a new thread.
