#BĹ Helium has been released! Well done. Time to celebrate! What might be the best way to celebrate the new #BĹ release on the forum?
I was thinking about it and decided to write a post about a tool that represents fabulous work just like the new #BĹ release.
This tool I'm talking about is a clipboard manager and it is called CopyQ. I just checked, so far there not has been a single post on this forum mentioning CopyQ.
Here is a video about CopyQ: https://hooktube.com/watch?v=j2SpoY6Mo6M
Of course there is ClipIt, which does its job, but CopyQ is on a completely different (higher) level. I've been using it for months now, have not had a single issue with it. If you integrate it in your workflow, CopyQ can be incredibly useful.
CopyQ has a searchable and editable history, it even supports images and enables command line control and has a built-in feature for taking screenshots of the whole (or part) of the desktop.
It looks like it's a quite mature project as it's v3.4 right now. There are .deb packages available here: https://github.com/hluk/CopyQ/releases
At the moment 3.3.1 is in Buster, and v3.4.0 in Sid. Here is the documentation: https://copyq.readthedocs.io/en/latest/
For anyone who is using a clipboard manager regularly, CopyQ deserves a closer look.

Having a look now - thanks!

^Once you configure it the way you like (with the shortcuts and look and everything), you might not want to miss it from the desktop. There are many options in the preferences to browse through once. I think it's a really well made tool, luckily it will be also in the debian repos.

I want it to delete all clipboard history on logout though (privacy/security), but haven't yet found a setting.

For the history in a CopyQ Tab there is the maximum number of items, which can be set to 0, so it deletes everything. The history can be also deleted by removing the whole Tab or the file that stores the history, which is the .dat file in CopyQ's config directory. Using the remove command automatically on logout would make CopyQ always start in a clean state.
If it's about privacy/security, there is also the encryption plugin (to encrypt items or tabs) and the unload setting in history, which removes data from memory. The recording of the clipboard history can be disabled by ctrl+shift+x or permanently by unsetting it under History.
CopyQ is called Clipboard Manager, but actually I think it's much more than that. It's almost like a desktop notetaking tool combined with clipboard management.
Edit: Might be useful - how to backup CopyQ data: https://github.com/hluk/CopyQ/wiki/Backup
