Your favorite panel position T/B/L/R or Hidden

How do you setup your panel position,

Top / Bottom / Left / Right or Hidden

I prefer "top" for two simple reasons:

1) Non bottom Windows (yes i don't like it where Windows placed their default "Start". Even back in my WinUsage always i set on top.

2) I like the top because i like to watch always above rather then bottom.

So, how about you...

Bottom, simply out of habit I think.

More important to me is that it is always set to autohide on my systems. Why have it taking up screen space that could be used by the applications I have open?

i am so classical... panel bottom, vertical conky left, vertical conky right. that's it.

i tried a vertical right hand panel for a long time, but it just doesn't look so good...

As a Seeder i'd like to see in real time how much upload bandwidth i do when i'm in font of desktop or how many in total.

Nevertheless, panel are useless sometimes.

Re: Your favorite panel position T/B/L/R or Hidden

Bottom out of habit from XP was how I started in Linux. When Ubuntu started moving the window buttons to the left because of "usability" I placed my panel on top and found that, indeed, top/left was easier for a right-handed person to mouse to.

Since I discovered xfce4-panel's "Deskbar" mode, it's been left all the way. You've seen my screenshots. Seems to be a much more efficient use of space with the screen format I have (1280x800 laptop).

I don't care what you do at home. Would you care to explain?

Definitely top & hidden.

My first spin with Linux was with Ubuntu (can't remember the release but it was the brown theme days) and everything in Gnome was at the top. Like Nili, I immediately changed the task bar in XP to the top, where panel has remained regardless of the OS. It just looks sufficiently not 'Windows' and being positioned at top, is easier upon my eyes.

I don't see why I should let a loathing of Windows determine where my panels are positioned!

^ For me, it's not that I 'loath' Windows at all. Having the panel at top was just a change of pace and eventually, proved to be more functional for my needs.

Top or bottom innuendos are so obvious, they're probably cliche by now, but what about the left/right ones? Spooning?

Bottom panel except for dwm or Awesome (I don't know why, they just don't look right with bottom bars).

Top & always visible - with a 1080 monitor, it really doesn't sacrifice much real estate to leave it visible (though I think I kept it visible on my wee netbook as well).  Fullscreen always covers the panel anyway, unless some application other than the fullscreen one has focus.

Considering trying out some wm dock applets again; might go with dock and panel on the right, since they felt uncomfortable as heck on the left last time I tried them.

I like it on top. Feels natural being closer to the window buttons when maximized.
