Fn keys on Gateway M210X

Hello, I'm having issues controlling things like volume and brightness with the Fn keys designated for those on my Gateway M210X laptop (c. 2004). Although I can kind of control those by digging around for the CLI commands, I just want to be able to use the hotkeys that worked for those when it was still an XP machine.
I'm still relatively new to Linux as a whole, so even though I've done a few searches for threads like this, I'm not sure how to get the result I want on the hardware I have. Any help I could get with this minor nuisance would be appreciated

Assign the commands to the hotkeys by editing ~/.config/openbox/rc.xml
