[SOLVED] Conky Defaults

After my first install of #!Bunsen, Conky was centered over the main logo.

Menu > Preferences > Conky > Reset

Conky disappeared.

Menu > Preferences > Conky > Chooser

Brings up "BunsenLabs Conky Chooser" -- nothing checked.

Checked my default, and, trying "Reset" again works.

=====

For future (quick) reference: I read something, somewhere about #!Bunsen scripts and such being moved to GitHub... can we get a sticky at the top of the "Bug Reports" forum for link / reference to that to troubleshoot / debug and provide pull requests?

Thanks,
Chip

The Bug Reports description already says

Bug Reports wrote:

Bug Reports
Report bugs you find in BL here or to our issue tracker.

BTW The BL scripts and configs have always been on github, and have always been publicly accessible (that's where BL is being developed wink ). "issue tracker" in the quote above is a link to a page for issue tracking.

Ref Conky. There is no "Reset" menu item, so did you mean "Reload Conkys"? In a terminal, run bl-conky-session and see if there are any errors.

I see this quote, where's the link to the actual quote?

I think the URI is missing from the actual "quote" aspect of the above "quote."

Yes, "Reload Conkys" -- "Reset" -- "Reload" -- whatever. Same-same. Tried. Failed. Posted bug report. Done deal.

It's on the Index page: the description of the forum section.
https://forums.bunsenlabs.org/index.php
EDIT: A hyperlink to the tracker is also in the description on the Index page wink

Any error output produced when running the `bl-conky-session` command would be much appreciated.

I see it now, top-level forums link.

(Laughing @ myself.)

Might I suggest: A sticky @ the top of the "Bug Reports" sub-forum would also be appropriate for quick information (up-to and including any forthcoming or outstanding bug-reports, guidelines, known-issues [non-fix or wip], etc.)

It only shows current session output. It does not show previous session output.

chip@BEAST1E:~$ bl-conky-session
Gtk-Message: GtkDialog mapped without a transient parent. This is discouraged.
Conky: forked to background, pid is 3577

Conky: desktop window (17b) is root window
Conky: window type - normal
Conky: drawing to created window (0x3e00001)
Conky: drawing to double buffer
chip@BEAST1E:~$ bl-conky-session
Gtk-Message: GtkDialog mapped without a transient parent. This is discouraged.
Conky: received SIGINT or SIGTERM to terminate. bye!
Conky: forked to background, pid is 3593

Conky: desktop window (17b) is root window
Conky: window type - normal
Conky: drawing to created window (0xc00001)
Conky: drawing to double buffer
chip@BEAST1E:~$

The first command was "No" to reset current Conky. The second was "Yes" to reset the current Conky process.

I tried quickly creating a new user, and, no Conky, etc.

=====

Here's an idea: Write the Conky session date / time to a history file. I know one of the first things I do when I setup a new VM is to run my personal install scripts, which includes extending my .bash_history to 10K lines.

I remember this from doing it at least once before: It would be really nice to have a cb-useradd, or, rather, bl-useradd... to copy default configuration scripts and info. I know I started on such a long while back, but, never completed it. (Maybe lost in time, maybe available on another DO VM; I can check if helpful.)

Re: [SOLVED] Conky Defaults

Still not entirely sure what the problem is. Are you saying that the default conky is not appearing? Your terminal output says that the conky is running.

Regarding sessions and sessionfiles, have you read the Help doc yet? (It is in the Conky menu: "Conkyzen Help")

If Case Default First Install:
If User Selects "Reload Conky" from Menu>Preferences>Conky
Conky Disappears (fails).
Else If
User Sets His/Her Default Manually "Reload Conky" Reloads (success).
Else
"Uh oh."

No, I didn't read it before, just what was easily at my disposal from `ls -lahtrR | grep conky`.

I have subsequently read Conkyzen, and, it is not helpful to providing the output you suggest, in addition to my session file. (Therein, it's not like, upon initial install, I'm not running other installs and configuration afterward which don't require reboot, etc. I'm an individual power-user, not an enterprise environment.) -- Point being -- I don't keep that initial session live while trying to go back and forth on fourms to meet your specific expectations. I did, however, create some new, temporary users and got a blank OpenBox environment (without the default #! environment, which is primarily designed for the initial user / install). But, of course the latter doesn't make very much sense, does it? So we'll leave it at that, okay?

Regards,
Chip

Re: [SOLVED] Conky Defaults

You are denigrating someone who is helping to develop BL, in his own time and because it is a labour of love. I will try to reproduce the problem, but your github issue implies that you have edited the configs, or else your description is inaccurate.

So keep your "Duh's" to yourself please

I have not edited default config files to any degree beyond that which "Conky Chooser" does.

Excuse me? You are the one failing to supply relevant information. How is this

detailed? We need way more details than that in order to track down an issue on your (read: remote, far away from us; we cannot see your system like you can) computer. When we keep asking for more information, it has nothing to do with us lacking attention to detail. Rather, it is you who are failing to provide the necessary information even though we have requested you to do so several times.

At first I wanted to object. Why? It's altogether pointless.

Have you spotted what I have?

Because it's really just a couple of scripts, completion, following-up and following-through.

And just to make a point, rather than complaining, what it boils down to is sitting down, taking the time.

Here's what I have yet to complete:
1.) Fork,
2.) Modify,
3.) Test
4.) Repeat steps 2 & 3 until fixed.
5.) Push
6.) Detail observations / findings (_to avoid any further arguments_)
7.) Submit pull request.
8.) ... wait for people who actually, typically do the work to vet the information / changes, perform #3 to ensure changes don't break other people's systems ...

... and then wait / hope I don't hear any further objections or complaints ...

I really liked #! -- I wasn't involved there. I saw BunsenLabs come about and I was grateful. But, I don't think I'll be much more involved after this due to ... well ... objectionable attitudes.

When someone posts what I did initially, here, in bug reports, only to be confronted with technical semantics and lack of willingness to follow-up and follow-through... yes, it is a direct reflection of my existing and past experiences in the development and programming community. (Crap I simply refuse to deal with among people citing or quoting experience, but who make any random excuse not to pay attention to details and increase costs and customer-facing issues. -- YES, I have a very unique, long-term perspective on matters. -- Typically I expect people who are responsible for things to BE ON TOP OF THEIR RESPONSIBILITIES -- as in, it would take me more time, inefficiently to fix issues, rather than rely on people who try to portray themselves as "experts" and then brush things off without actually reading and paying attention to the details, often to the tune of subsequent complaints. Then again, this may be altogether too 'complex' a topic for some people to comprehend.)
