Pinta - buggy version in repos

The Pinta graphics mono-app installs beautifully from the repository using "apt-get install pinta."

It's fast and lightweight. It is not the latest version however - the current 1.3 has a bug in the Crop-functionality...which really limits the use.
Latest is 1.6 which has a fix for this.

Synaptic reports

Candidate: 1.3-3
Version table:
1.3-3 0
500 http://deb.debian.org/debian/ jessie/main i386 Packages

How does this work can - can I make a suggestion or request somewhere for a 1.6 build?

I tried to enable repositories as suggested on the Pinta site - which installed Pinta 1.6 but also 400mb Mono libraries and assorted drivers and killed Firefox. I'm not very good at this. Thank you for any help.

I can't see such suggestions on pinta site for Debian (there seems to be a ppa for Ubuntu).

You can either
a. Stay on jessie and build your own https://github.com/PintaProject/Pinta#l … structions
b. Update to stretch and have 1.6 in repos

pinta:
  Installed: 1.6-2
  Candidate: 1.6-2
  Version table:
 *** 1.6-2 500
        500 https://deb.debian.org/debian stretch/main amd64 Packages
        500 https://deb.debian.org/debian stretch/main i386 Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

Re: Pinta - buggy version in repos

v1.6 here:

[broken link]

Although the package is called "ppa1~trusty" it has been built in a Debian jessie VM and so is "safe" to install in BunsenLabs Hydrogen/Deuterium.

I will probably rebuild the package properly and name it as a backport if I get a chance but the package should work fine as it is.

EDIT: hold on, I'm rebuilding with stretch packages, no idea why I used an Ubuntu one hmm

EDIT2: better package here:

https://download.opensuse.org/repositor … -2_all.deb

It's still not done "properly" though so if you decide to track the Debian stretch repositories then be sure to remove the package before using dist-upgrade.

EDIT: Fancy download link:

https://software.opensuse.org//download … kage=pinta

It may be best to just use the .deb though.

Just add a tilde extension to the version number:
pinta_1.6-2~hoas
That will always be considered a lower version than 1.6-2 so upgrades should just go through.

Re: Pinta - buggy version in repos

^ Thanks John smile

As it happens I do know the correct nomenclature but I built the package by downloading the Debian stretch .dsc & .debian.tar.gz and uploading them (and the source tarball) to the OBS all from Alpine Linux big_smile

If I have time I will rebuild the packages properly in a Debian jessie chroot.

The package has been rebuilt with the correct nomenclature:

Re: Pinta - buggy version in repos

Hi gents, apologies for late reply, I've been away on e-sports in Katowice, the CS:GO final was truly memorable. We had great seats and I shot this with my phone... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=evM5ngNh2bE

Thank you for your response and amazing support to get this sorted. I have to use Windows10 at work and it hurts when I know how smooth everything can be with OpenBox / BL.

I'll try to get the latest Pinta installed now, will let you know how it goes...

UPDATE: Installed from the .deb - 1.6 works like a dream.
