This usually means either another dpkg/apt/apt-get/synaptic process is running or such has crashed without cleaning the lock file. In the latter case you can safely delete the lock file mentioned.

From installing deb packages via install on click? Didnt open anything that session, maybe from before? Did delete the file with rm, but still no improvement.
With apt-get update it gets stuck at 0% with apt update it gives the message (or vice versa^^)

OK, let's take this one step at a time.
First, please run this command:
sudo rm /var/lib/apt/lists/lockThen run this command and please post the full output if there is a problem:
LC_ALL=C sudo apt update^ The "LC_ALL=C" bit should make it "speak" English ![]()

If you have an operation running that uses aptitude, apt-get, or apt, it places a lock file so that only one instance of those applications can run. When that process finishes it releases the lock. It happens at times that you have some long-running operation in apt-get and forget and try to install software or something while it is busy. Also, if you are doing apt operations in the terminal and try to do something in Synaptic, the same thing will happen.
