hi there
i tried to find a solution for my problem in this forum as well as online, but couldn't find anything. it's a basic thing but still.. i've been using crunchbang for a few years, switched to jessie for one year and now switched to bunsenlabs deuterium. but i never got deep into everything so please be patient.
i've got thunderbird and added enigmail. with the setup wizard i select "i want to import my settings from a previous installation" because i've exported my keys before switching.
after clicking "next" i get the message: "Enigmail requires GnuPG [...]. The wizard tried to locate the GnuPG executable, but it could not be found. Please locate GnuPG using the Browse button." then (only) a browse button.
> Browse > /home/USERNAME > ctrl+h > .gnupg
when i click "open" it just opens the folder and let's me select each file in the folder. after choosing each file, the wizard just tells me: "The file you specified is not a GnuPG executable. Please specify a different file."
enimgail.net says on this page that "If you are certain that GnuPG is installed on your computer, please point Enigmail to the installed GnuPG program by clicking on Browse and selecting the GnuPG program folder."
but what if i can't chose the folder?
I made sure in synaptic that i've got gpg2 and dependencies. i restarted my PC. still the same. the only other thing I found was in enigmails FAQ where they suggested to deinstall gnupg 1.4 (which is still running). but when i marked it for removal, synaptic told me it would also remove apt. and after re-checking online i found strong advise against removal of 1.4 because the repositories would still rely on it. so i opted out of that one...
i'm glad for any suggestion, thanks.

You need to select the gpg executable. Do
which gpgon the command line, then use that Enigmail file browsing dialog to go to that path. It should be
/usr/bin/gpg2or
/usr/bin/gpgfor gnupg1.

thanks so much!
couldn't do it via the "browse" function but preferences let me insert the path directly.
