we don't like to keep dotfiles in /root and the contrasting theme is intended to serve as a visual reminder that the application is being run as root.
I see. That of course makes sense and is definitely useful!

Worked with synaptic, gparted, and thunar.

I think we will see helium at the end of this year ;-)

OK, I didn't realise that thunar had a .pkla file as well but now I see that it does, thanks!
I will update the pkexec thread in a bit.
we will see helium at the end of this year
I would hope to be fully engaged in Lithium development by then

^ Nice! Unfortunately, geany and terminator did not work both of which are apps that I root need access from.

terminator did not work
Try this instead:
sudo -i
That method only exposes your system to any bugs in sudo whereas the other method would expose your system to all the pkexec and X-related bugs as well.
I would also strongly recommend only ever editing system files with
sudoedit

^ True. I typically don't do actual development from /root. Just configuration changes, moving stuff around etc.

I'd not add policies for these programs to avoid any encouraging of that usage by not-so-experienced users. People knowing what they do can add the policies by themselves.

Any word on Helium? I'm new here, and would like to start on the new OS. I know I can get it in Dev. But, just as a final project, that I know will work.

Due to wintery illness and real-life demands, progress is stalling since December 2017, but our packages are essentially almost release-ready. It'll be out as soon as we have the capacities to make that last push towards releasing the product. Currently we're working on QAing packages and fixing the last couple of bugs in our package sources. Progress can be seen if not here on the forums, then on our Github index page.

So 1-3 months ;-) If we get lucky ;-)

It's a drag, to be sure. We were hoping to have Helium out (and start working on Lithium) last Nov/Dec but Real Life™ has a way of interfering.
Please understand we haven't given up, and are determined to keep the project moving forward!
normal service will be resumed as soon as possible

We know it is worth it to wait. ;-) We are just impatient.

Am I the only one who usually gets confused by those Lithium, Hydrogen, Deuterium, Helium, etc. names?
After some research I can figure out though what they mean (mostly).

At first I had to look up all of the names. Now I know what I'm running and can at least distinguish between "Helium" and "all the others".

Click on "H" (hydrogen) and read the "isotopes" link
Strictly speaking, we should be calling helium-dev "diproton" but I couldn't get it past the rest of the Team 8o

^That periodic table video is great! It could be added to the beginning of the bl-welcome script. It'd be a nice surprise popping up this sweet video with all the elements in the periodic table. Haha, just joking, nevertheless it'd be indeed a surprise.
But look at all the junk on that site:
There is all kinds of rubbish from doubleclick.net over battery fingerprinting till browser plugins enumeration. This is why I prefer (it's more convenient for downloads too):

So how far is helium ;-) ? Few more weeks to go?
