install bunsenlabs with kernel 4.9

Hello all,

I am in the process of getting a new laptop, and to use some stuff (like battery indicator) I would need the more recent linux kernel, likely the 4.9 LTS (the stretch one). I haven't got experience with handling the kernel, how would you recommend me to go, to have BL with the stretch kernel? dist-upgrade (haven't done it but seems like it doesn't break much)? Wait for Helium?

Kernel 4.9.0 is in jessie-backports, so that'd be my first way to go. If you're keen you could try helium (which works quite fine for me) but keep in mind that it's still labeled as "not ready for production".

hi vinzv, thanks for your message. Jessie-backports seems like a fine solution, I'll probably go for it!
Are there helium ISOs available to download? Couldn't find them around

No ISOs yet, but installation is quite easy with Debian netinstall and the helium-dev script:

Agree with the installing via backports if you want Bunsenlabs current release. Though I did dist-upgrade BL-Hydrogen to Stretch and that OS/install is still running fine too. Personally would say go with whatever the BL team has out as pending latest release. BL team = a bunch of good nixers, am sure whatever they're putting together in the lab is already stable and ready for prime time anyway.

In the end I installed BL Deuterium and did a dist-upgrade to stretch/helium-dev. Everything works flawlessly so far, I didn't even had to manually download the new themes and paper.
