Wireless Network not staying connected

I just installed bunsenlab on a new HP laptop and the wireless connection is garbage. DL speeds do not go above 200kbs and I can't stay connected to the router for more than 10 minutes before my connection drops. The laptop came with Win10 and worked without issue for about a week before I changed OS.

lspci gives me

user@debian:~$ lspci

The connective problems make it very difficult to use the repos to try and alter the firmware for the RTL8188EE network card and I don't have access to a line for the ethernet card.
Does anyone got any suggestions cuz this pretty much makes the laptop a brick

Re: Wireless Network not staying connected

please provide the output requested here (mods: still up-to-date?).

it is always an additional challenge to install things on a machine that has (almost) no internet connection.
however, this issue is always the same regardless of the hardware specific stuff, and has been addressed & solved many times.
i'm sure you'll figure it out.

Oh yes, very much so.

@OP: try using this command:

dmesg -w

Then wait for the connection to degrade and watch for any messages relating to the rtl8188 kernel module, we may be able to fiddle with the power saving options.

Can we see the output of:

iwconfig

Re: Wireless Network not staying connected

Sorry for not getting back on this topic, it became super critical for the laptop to work and stay stable for my wife. I threw Xubuntu on and the default drivers worked better the #! ones so that's what I'm running now.

I don't particularly like Xubuntu though, so I would still like to get this fixed. Would booting the laptop in live mode and performing the test give me accurate information? Also would it be possible to rebuild the .iso with updated drivers so that I could run the install without dropping connection to the repos?

Yes.

If your laptop is brand new then you're probably better off with Debian stretch until our next version (Helium) is out.

There are unofficial ISO images available here that contain the non-free firmware required by your hardware:

https://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/unof … so-hybrid/

The XFCE LXDE desktop is probably the lightest on offer but I would personally recommend the full GNOME.

Might the Backports repo be useful?

Re: Wireless Network not staying connected

^ To an extent, yes but stretch offers much more and it is now the current stable release; jessie only has a year left until it is transferred to LTS.

Re: Wireless Network not staying connected

Ok finally got time to get this fixed.

Got new internet provider and new router and the connection has been stable. Sometimes the icon for my connection drops to only one bar, but I'm only ten feet from the router so the connection doesn't drop off.

here is out put from the tutorial
