[SOLVED] Keyboard Shortcut to Unmaximize a Window

Alt-X maximizes a window.  Is there a keyboard shortcut to unmaximize a window or return the window to it's original size?

http://openbox.org/wiki/Help:Actions#Unmaximize

No idea what the BL shortcut is but use the above link to make your own in rc.xml

EDIT: `grep "Unmaximize" rc.xml` to find the extant version.

Re: [SOLVED] Keyboard Shortcut to Unmaximize a Window

Anyway, the answer is A+F6 to toggle maximization.

Finding that by grepping rc.xml is not as easy as HoaS makes out - try it! At the least you'll want

grep -i -C1 "maximize" ~/.config/openbox/rc.xml

But that gives you a lot of output to sift through...

Re: [SOLVED] Keyboard Shortcut to Unmaximize a Window

Actually, the keyboard shortcut in my OP was incorrect; it's Alt-Spacebar-X.  To unmaximize, Alt-Spacebar-E.  The answer is obvious now that I know it, but wasn't obvious just seeing the Restore option.

Alt-F6 still works - fewer keys and only one combination to remember.

Indeed — sorry for the bad advice KT, I  added that in haste  hmm

I would open rc.xml in vim and press the "/" key (for the search function) and type in "maximize" then use "n" to cycle through the instances, I think you can do something similar with geany.

The experience really does make me appreciate just how awful XML is and how unsuited it is to the task at hand  sad

EDIT: can we fork openbox and make it use plain text configuration instead?  8o

This (geany) is what I usually do in these cases.

But, I forgot to mention, there's a dynamic menu item near the bottom of the BL menu "Display Keybinds" which will show you what's currently configured.
A-F6                ToggleMaximize
is near the top.

Apologies to @damo (the author) for forgetting this, and kudos!

That key combo does nothing on my machine.

I did not, but just did (using Medit) and didn't see anything but a few mousebind settings (left double-clicking on a window bar will maximize/de-maximize the window) and three settings for Gimp.

Re: [SOLVED] Keyboard Shortcut to Unmaximize a Window

^ Well then you must be using a non-stock rc.xml

Please post the full content of the file.

Re: [SOLVED] Keyboard Shortcut to Unmaximize a Window

^ Not sure what's happened to that file (did you remove the ToggleMaximize stanza yourself?) but here is the original:

https://github.com/BunsenLabs/bunsen-co … box/rc.xml

You also have a local copy of this at /usr/share/bunsen/skel/.config/openbox/rc.xml

^ Not sure what's happened to that file (did you remove the ToggleMaximize stanza yourself?) but here is the original:

You also have a local copy of this at /usr/share/bunsen/skel/.config/openbox/rc.xml

No...I believe the only changes made to that file were via the Openbox Configuration Manager to change the number of desktops to 4 and to change the theme.  It could be that I'm using an older rc.xml file.  Sometimes when I do a install/re-install, I replace the default configuration files with my last changed version from the previous install.

I just checked the same file on my desktop and it contains the ToggleMaximize stanza and it works.  I must be using an older rc.xml file on my laptop.
