Hi everyone
I was over on the crunchbang forums yonks ago. I just signed up to say hello *waves*
I used Debian 8 for about 4 years after Crunchbang and now I am using... don't laugh ... Lubuntu ... on a refurbished netbook. I did try installing mint on the refurbished netbook, but I found it too slow. It only has 2GB of RAM, so that's probably why.
Anyway, hope you're all doing well.
Marianne

Thank you damo, Head_on_a_Stick, Sector11 and johnraff.
It's nice to see some familiar faces. I remember everyone being very helpful when I was trying to get my Elonex Webbook working with Crunchbang back in June 2012.

Welcome back. I think for your system settings would be recommended those lightweight distros BunsenLabs, antix, MX-16, LinuxBBQ or ArchLabs.
Hope you enjoy using your installed distro.

Hi and thank you. I did not see your recommendations until now.
Do you think any of those would be lighter than Debian 9 (it's what I have now, but I'm getting itchy fingers) or about the same?
I've never been able to get arch running on anything so I'm a bit edgy about installing that.

you should be fine with archlabs because someone (a member of this forum) did the heavy lifting, you just install it.
if you use debian 9's default desktop, that's going to be heavy.
thankfully distros like AntiX and BL have configured debian stable to be very lightweight.
not wanting to step on anyone's toes, but for old & underpowered hardware (those atom netbooks) i think antiX is most suited.

Thank you.
My netbook is a refurbished Toshiba NB510. I think it's this one:
http://www.alphr.com/toshiba/toshiba-nb … 510-review
It has 2GB of RAM, as opposed to the basic 1 that this one comes with.
I see why it's slower than my previous netbook now as that was dual core despite having only 1GB ram (not upgradable)
I spilled tea on the keyboard of that one though so that's why I got this Toshiba one.
I will put AntiX on a stick and have a look at it. Otherwise I may go with BL, as I have already taken a look at it.

Can I ask a stupid question?
Which one of these torrents should I download? I'm assuming the last one is the net install so I don't want that.
antiX
32 bit:
antiX-16.2_386-full.iso LinuxTracker
antiX-16.2_386-base.iso LinuxTracker
antiX-16.2_386-core-libre.iso LinuxTracker
antiX-16.2.1_386-net.iso LinuxTracker

antiX-16.2_386-full.iso
I would use this one, that has everything on it I think.
You should probably at least try the 64-bit version:

If your netbook is 64-bit then it will run faster (and be more secure) with a 64-bit operating system, albeit with slightly increased RAM usage.
@Steve, the OP has already tried BunsenLabs and seems quite capable of making their own mind up

Install bunsenlabs.
I'm sure you mean well but..
That was not actually anything to do with my question Steve. Answering everything with "install bunsenlabs" or "try bunsenlabs" doesn't actually help me.

Oh my netbook is definitely NOT 64 bit!

So how did you go with antiX?

I have not found out which one to download yet.
I need the 32bit live one.
