There it is in a nutshell.
I tried to en- and disable javascript, but that doesn't seem to make any difference.
Whenever I press the "Logout" button (to the right of the PM button in the top menu bar), it reloads the page but doesn't log me out.
Using palemoon 27.4.1 (64-bit) with these addons:

wmlbrowser 0.7.26.1-signed.1-signed true {c4dc572a-3295-40eb-b30f-b54aa4cdc4b7}
BUT!
just now i found a sort of workaround:
I opened the forum index in a new tab (right-click "Index" => open in new tab), pressed logout and it logged me out!
I'm using the "Crunchbang" style.
PS:
The forum doesn't have a dedicated section for internal issues?

Does palemoon have a "safe" mode in which you can start the program without the addons running?
I presume that is stevep's package?
Can you reproduce this issue with firefox-esr (from the Debian repositories)?

Can't reproduce using Palemoon with no addons in version 27.4.1 64bit.

Using palemoon 27.4.1 64-bit with one addon:
uBlock Origin
and "Logout" works just fine.
Debian 12 Beardog, SoxDog and still a Conky 1.9er

Might it be an issue with the redirect?

Yesterday, straight after posting, I tried it with palemoon with addons disabled (yes, it does have that feature, and no, not stevep's package, but compiled from the AUR).
i'm befuddled now, i think it worked straight away, then I wanted to post that here, and then it didn't work again, the I restarted palemoon normally, and it worked... confusing, inconsistent until I find any sort of pattern in it.
I will try to troubleshoot systematically (gonna have to take notes) with different browsers etc.
to clarify:
doesn't work: I press Logout, the page reloads but I'm not logged out: It's still the dark crunchbang theme, I'm still logged in, can access personal info etc.
works: I press Logout, the page reloads to the whitish default theme with an appropriate message (you have been logged out). And I am indeed logged out, I get permission denied errors when trying to access personal info or reload another tab with e.g. some post I was editing at the time.
The only idea I have right now is that it has to do with multiple tabs; I twend to open each thread I want to read in a separate tab first, so each forum session means opening quite many tabs, and closing them again one by one.
It might well be palemoon-related.

If you have multiple instances open, then my guess would be you won't be fully logged out til you drop session ccokies for each login. Session cookies tend to be unique identifiers tied to a specific login.

Or, maybe, multiple tabs for different threads in the Bunsen forums?

no multiple instances, i'm sure.
but it could be a hint in the right direction, idk.
no multiple tabs either; the tab with the index page is always the last one.
Can you verify that the pages you're still 'accessing' are not coming from the cache? (force-refresh or similar).
will try. obviously i have to log out for that (or at least try)...
i can say that upon pressing the logout button, i first see some url with a long token appended, then it goes to the default index.php.
i have also installed firefox-esr-bin and will try with that (and add it to the notes).
