[SOLVED][Helium-dev] GTK theme problems

The borders between elements in my windows are gone:

http://imgur.com/a/CinCx

This is program independent. It happens with google chrome, terminator...it doesn't matter. What should I do?

Re: [SOLVED][Helium-dev] GTK theme problems

So what did you do to your system before this happened? Did you change the Openbox theme?

What makes you think it is a "bug"?

(Your screenshot only shows one maximised window)

I think mariojlhm refers to separators between menu items, which is probably a GTK theme issue.

^ If it is the menu, then it is definitely to do with the Openbox theme which was chosen.

Re: [SOLVED][Helium-dev] GTK theme problems

Unia's correct, I'm referring to the separators between menu items. I never changed my Openbox theme. Ran sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade a few months ago and this was the result.

That's actually a good question. How do you change the openbox theme? Is that under "Preferences -> Appearance"?

Actually, no — use `obconf` to set the Openbox stuff, I think it's in the Openbox submenu under Preferences.

You can install lxappearance-obconf to unify the configuration under the Appearance entry.

Which GTK theme are you running?

grep gtk-theme-name ~/{.gtkrc-2.0,.config/gtk-3.0/settings.ini}

Can we also please see the full output of:

apt-cache policy

The screenshot is showing the right-click terminator menu I think, and I see the same result. This has no relation to the Openbox main menu: how does that behave on your system?

For the OB theme choice, either run obconf, or Menu -> Preferences -> Openbox -> GUI Config Tool

For basic questions like this, have a read of Getting Started -> Introduction to the BunsenLabs Desktop

You are running Debian 9 (stretch) with our BunsenLabs Hydrogen/Deuterium repositories.

You should replace the line in the file at /etc/apt/sources.list.d/bunsen.list with our (experimental) Helium-dev repositories:

deb https://kelaino.bunsenlabs.org/~johnraff/debian helium main

Once that file is saved, download the APT key and add it:

wget -q https://kelaino.bunsenlabs.org/~johnraff/helium-dev.asc -O - | sudo apt-key add -

Then update & upgrade the system to bring in the new themes:

sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade

I have added a [Helium-dev] tag to your thread, please use this yourself in future and always let us know if you are trying out a development version.

Thanks for testing.

Re: [SOLVED][Helium-dev] GTK theme problems

Thanks! I'll try this out when I get a break from work. Yeah...I should have mentioned that. I had been using testing for a LONG time, and it Just Worked.

Re: [SOLVED][Helium-dev] GTK theme problems

Adding the new repositories did the trick! Thanks all!

I'm not clear on what you're asking...how does what behave on my system? The Openbox main menu system? It worked the same way. There were no separators between the menu items there either. After updating, the menu items are properly separated again.

Re: [SOLVED][Helium-dev] GTK theme problems

^ The menus of Terminator and Openbox are behaving differently on my system, whichever theme is chosen. Your screenshot showed only the terminal right-click menu, and not the Openbox one. Here are both together on my desktop:
menus.th.png

After updating, the menu items are properly separated again.

"Properly" is just your preference. The theme in use is what determines how the menu looks: your update probably just repaired whatever was broken.
