Pardon my ignorance, but I don't know what you mean.

I mean that if somebody decides to install BL alongside another distribution but they choose not to install GRUB from the BunsenLabs installer (to keep the GRUB they already have) then that "Recovery" option will not appear when their menu is updated (from the original OS).

I needed it a few times when I had an AMD graphics card on my old Dell laptop and a kernel upgrade would hose the proprietary driver

None of that would be a problem if the (stock) non-proprietary driver was used and it is worth noting that for Debian stretch and newer the open amdgpu driver actually out-performs the non-free drivers in all respects  cool

I always setup the stable version of Debian (net install) first and have that control GRUB.

No longer an issue as I no longer have that laptop.
