I figured out that I was old when my son say me writing down all of this stuff for his mom, he said "Dad, why don't you just take a picture instead of writing all of that" and send it to her! I thought the brilliance of youth in it's prime! :-)

Damo should we do the same with topdollar? After all his kid says such wonderful things.
@ topdollar and KrunchTime - you know you're getting old when a healthy 20-something young lady gets up to offer you her seat on the bus. I just smile and said "I'm good thanks." (in Spanish of course). But in my mind, "Well, that's it, YOU'RE OLD!"
In my mind I'm still 30ish. Problem is when body parts start screaming "NO! YOU ARE NOT 30-something! SLOW DOWN!"

Really interesting thread. I truly admire all the non-IT folks on this forum who are interested to learn Linux on their own.
Currently I'm an IP voice admin which translates into a lot of time spent working with class 4 and class 5 softswitches, various IP telephony vendors' equipment and standard Linux systems.

I have a saying...you know you're getting old when you see antique license plates on vehicles that were newer during your youth.

Wow brother, that's my life in a nutshell! Now I am not a huge country music fan but Toby Keith has a song called "As Good as I Once Was" and it stuck a bell with me!
Once again, not trying to hijack the thread!

Double standards!! I had to race* Sector11 to the nearest neighborhood bingo gathering in order to qualify. Now you're letting the little whipperspammers in for free?
*I was leading too, till the bastid threw a conky in my face, impairing my vision with weather widgets.

OMG!!! Give him the "Gold" Membership card! Maybe you never made it to the bingo, but do you know what it's like sitting with a bunch of little of ladies that are looking at you with daggers in their eyes ... "touch my card and ... " damn scary stuff ...
First guy that comes in here and says he was a Bingo Caller - I shoot first and ask questions later!

Yeah, but @KrunchTime behaves like he would fit right in. You would be too lively, and interrupt the snoring

True, I fit the definition in the OP that started the thread; e.g. liking some things the way they used to be. I'm also a bit of an introvert and much prefer peace and quiet over rowdy crowds and/or noise.

For some it is a matter of necessity — I cannot afford Microsoft's (insane) licensing fees but I can use OpenBSD & print/texlive (for free) to generate articles and letters &c that look *much* better than silly old Word documents...

Nice ... but will they bring back 'dumb phones'?
You know the ones that just make phone calls, no camera, no radio, no games. no WhatsApp, WhatsUp WhatsDown WhatsOverThere ... but has an "address book"; for the sake of a name - and SMS messages since the 'dumb phones' of old had "text messaging", none of this MMS please, that stuff can carry viruses. ]:D

When it was introduced by Nokia at Mobile World Congress this year it created the biggest media buzz of all things shown there.
