How to Open a New Tab in the Foreground in Chrome/Chromium

One thing that has annoyed me about using Chromium is that there is no option under Settings to open a new tab in the foreground.  Today, I did a bit of sleuthing and discovered the following.

SHIFT+MIDDLE-CLICK or CTRL-SHIFT-CLICK on a link.

If you'd prefer an automated method, checkout the Tab Activate extension in the Chrome Web Store.
