Install on Raspberry Pi

I'm wanting to install BL on my Pi. Is this something that others have already done and if so is there anything I need to know before doing it myself?

I'm currently stuck using Raspbian lite as both my mouse and keyboard are non responsive under Raspian full. So your help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Install on Raspberry Pi

BunsenLabs is built for x86 processors, whereas the Raspberry Pi uses an ARM processor. I suspect you could cobble something together for the Raspberry Pi to look and act like Bunsen Labs, but it would be a non-trivial undertaking.

My $0.02: I would suggest you first troubleshoot your keyboard and mouse problems with the Raspbian Full OS before attempting anything else. The Raspbian distrubution is (obviously) targeted at the Raspbian hardware - it really should work smile. (And does work for a zillion-or-so users.) )  Whatever is plaguing your Raspbian Full installation is fairly likely to also be a problem with any other Debian-with-Xorg-gui-type installation.

Re: Install on Raspberry Pi

Thanks tynman, I'm not sure I know where to start when it comes to debugging the keyboard/mouse issue.

It's not the USB ports I know that much as I'm using the KB in the TTY with R/lite.

Re: Install on Raspberry Pi

Any luck trying to figure out whether it's a hardware (needs a different power supply, not compatible with PI) or software issue (some module missing?). I'd try to get some more info and ideas from threads like this, also using the exact name of the hardware and raspbian version as search terms. Searx (or Startpage or whatever you are using) may deliver some hints to find a solutíon.

Re: Install on Raspberry Pi

Thanks for the thread link martix.

I'm surprised there's an issue tbh as the kb and mouse are generic el cheapo wired ones. Anyway I'll work through it and hopefully find a solution.

Note: it's definitely not the power supply as I've been running the Pi all day in headless mode as I installed irssi and I'm ssh'd in to it from my Mac. Also as mentioned previously the keyboard works fine under Rpi lite as I used it to run the install and configure ssh etc.

Excuse my ignorance (I've never used a Raspberry Pi) but the only difference between Raspbian and the "lite" version is that the latter has no graphical desktop, as far as I can tell.

Are you saying that your keyboard works in the console (TTY) screen but not in the graphical desktop?

Also, if you have a Pi 3, does pure Debian work?

I think you need all kinds of blobs for that device though, it's pretty locked down  sad

Mod Note: thread moved to Help & Support (Other)

Yes, that's what I'm saying.

My aim with the Pi is to get a minimal #!/BL like distro running on it with Xmonad as the DE so I can use it for my CCNA studies.
I decided on Xmonad as I've just bought a 27in monitor & I'm thinking it will allow me to make best use of all that screen realestate.

Re: Install on Raspberry Pi

What does the Xorg log file say if you install the X server and try to launch it in Raspbian Lite?

If the keyboard works in the TTY then it should work in X as well, I would think.

Re: Install on Raspberry Pi

Hey Hoas, sorry I don't know what my Xorg file says as I'd already wiped the sd card by the time I read your message. Several miss starts later I've bought a class 10 card and just downloaded the latest Raspbian and written it with dd and low and behold it's decided to boot!

So with no actual understanding of what's changed I am now running the full edition of Raspbian with a fully working (and unchanged) keyboard and mouse while writing this reply!

Now with any luck I'll be able to install Xmonad and start getting some actual work done!
