Inside VirtualBox: vboxclient the virtualbox kernel service is not run

"vboxclient the virtualbox kernel service is not running"

I'm running Hydrogen rc1 64bit
VirtualBox v5 from the ppa from Ubuntu 14.04 LTS

Tried to install VirtualBox Additions CD to get copy and paste etc and got this error just after logging into bunsenlabs - in the top right hand corner. It is only there for a brief couple of seconds.

Cured by:

sudo apt-get install virtualbox-guest-x11

Installing applications directly from Ubuntu PPAs may cause problems.

Please take a moment to read the "Don't Break BunsenLabs" link in my signature -- pay particular attention to the "FrankenDebian" section.

You shouold remove the PPA and purge the Ubuntu version of VirtualBox.

Version 5.0.4 is available from the jessie-backports repositories and will work without wrecking your system.
https://packages.debian.org/jessie-backports/virtualbox

First add the jessie-backports repository:

sudo tee -a /etc/apt/sources.list <<< "deb http://httpredir.debian.org/debian jessie-backports main"

Then update your package database:

sudo apt update

Then install VirtualBox from jessie-backports:

sudo apt install virtualbox/jessie-backports
