Crunchbang forum: "Tips,Tricks & Scripts" Collection

A great resource for "Tips,Tricks & Scripts"

There is a condensed list of important threads at "Recommended Threads to Watch "

Where is "Recommended Threads to Watch"? It only says "Last edited by Sector11 (2015-02-09 16:32:30)" ?

@dolly

There is a major problem with the #! forums now. You can usually see the content of posts by clicking "Quote", but it isn't a very friendly way to read them sad

Do "we" have a database dump? Or some other backup?

Yes. The guys are working on it ATM, as time permits. It is huuge, as you may imagine, and many internal links need fixing. Whether it will be suitable for public unveiling soon I don't know, but rest assured the content is backed up smile

Re: Crunchbang forum: "Tips,Tricks & Scripts" Collection

It's good to know that the content is backed up. If those forum posts disappeared, for me that would be sort of a tragedy. There is so much knowledge and wisdom in those posts. While I was searching for some info about dynamic menus, some #!-threads were kind of a kickstarter. Not to mention how helpful those posts can be while looking for a solution of a debian-specific issue. Those #!-threads are still a treasure box.

What about merging the #! forum  into Bl's as a subforum?

It is an option which is under consideration...

It isn't just about links though - we need to think about usernames, user information etc, and anonymise it where appropriate.

OK, this is old but maybe it will clear up some things.

Unless you are logged you do not see the "Quote" button and even if you did, the forum is in read only mode and I used the URL:post function rather than the long url method in that post:

[h]Please read these at least once:[/h]
[list=*]
[*][post=417600]Forum Conduct Guide[/post][/*]
[*][post=5462]** Please read before posting **[/post][/*]
[*][post=415334]CrunchBang FAQ[/post][/*]
[/list]

[h]Index» Tips, Tricks & Scripts[/h]
[list=*]
[*][topic=30840]The official VIM thread[/topic][/*]
[*][topic=23930]Remove Pulseaudio[/topic][/*]
[*][topic=27275]Script To Install Spotify[/topic][/*]

So unless you go looking for that actual "Thread Name" it's a hassle.

Also for some things I didn't use correct thread names:
ie: "Forum Conduct Guide" is really: Index » News & Announcements » Forum etiquette - by bobobex
If you click on that link it will appear empty as well.

I'm logged in so clicking on "Quote" I see it reads:

The PRIMARY aims of the #! forums is for users to share information and help each other with CrunchBang/Debian related issues.  The Off-Topic section is provided as a courtesy for members but we expect our members to exercise some common sense when posting in there. We do not want our forums to be associated with porn, drugs, criminal activities or any other topic which may inadvertently cause offence to another forum member who reads the thread.  If it is deemed to be unsuitable, then a moderator will close the thread. When a moderator closes a thread, that decision is final. The moderator will explain the reason behind closing a thread and if any members then decide to open a new thread discussing why a previous thread has been closed, then that member will face a ban.

Our moderators give their time freely, with little or no thanks and certainly no financial reward. They perform a difficult task at times, and therefore deserve our support as they carry out their moderating duties. We do not expect them to be vilified by the community for any decisions that they make.

We are all for free speech but at our heart we are a friendly, helpful forum community and I would like to see us stay that way. If these terms are not acceptable to you, please feel free to leave at any time.

There is a workaround to still read the #!-forum threads correctly:

Install the add-on Resurrect Pages. It's for FF, but there are similar ones for other browsers.

When the #!-thread is open with the missing posts, click on the Resurrect Pages icon and choose "The Internet Archive". It can be configured to open in the same tab, in a new tab or in a new window. Most of the pages work fine that way.

I've been using an Ubuntu derivative for years, but every time I'm tinkering or need help, I always end up on the Crunchbang forum. Or more and more, here. I'm using Bunsenlabs because I love these forums so much.

Martix mentioned the above. Cool, thanks ... could be real time and pita saver.
