Re: [Solved] No sound with Pulse Audio

OK, the only difference there is the IRQ number for the non-default card hmm

In the live system, what does PulseAudio say about the available outputs?

pacmd list-sinks

@ector1935's suggestion is worth a try if you happen to have an installed system with PulseAudio still in place; it would be really useful to track down this failing.

In your qasmixer system (s12), have any module options been applied?

grep -R intel /etc/modprobe.d

Re: [Solved] No sound with Pulse Audio

Basically A Fresh start from here on!

OK, I have a BL-D install complete with Pulse Audio ... OOTB = No Sound

So I did what I did with ALSA and installed QasMixer.

Saw the the ever present [2ch] box was set and changed it to [6ch] and just about broke my eardrums with "Logan" playing in MPV @100% vol.  OUCH!

Anyone have any idea how to make these changes in PA without installing QasMixer?

Oh yes, works on the internet too!

Re: [Solved] No sound with Pulse Audio

OK, I looked at @ector1935's suggestion and things (I'm a noob) didn't feel right and I lost sound.  Rebooting brought back my sound.  Thank you QasMixer.

I know that you said you tried that already but that does look to me to be the analogous option in pavucontrol — all you are doing with qasmixer is changing the default output device and that can be done with pavucontrol.

I suppose you could post some scrots of the configuration tab of pavucontrol and I could tell you which button to press, perhaps.

So sound works just fine in s12 with PulseAudio running [1] as long as you switch the output device?

If so then your sound issues have nothing to do with PA.

[1] check with `pgrep -a pulse`

OK, that isn't exactly true; as I see it.  Yes I changed cards to the second one, but what gave me sound was setting the channels to [6ch] vs [2ch].  [2ch] didn't work on either card [6ch] worked on both, but on the second it gave me stereo vs mono in the first card.  So the key is that [6ch] as seen here

Since this system (s12) had QasMixer that I had changed to [6ch], I just reset it to [2ch] and deleted QasMixer.  For test purposes.

NO SOUND so: pavucontrol
2017-06-21_142001_Scrot11.th.jpg

Let's see if we can do this without QasMixer since we KNOW sound is possible.

Hoas wrote:

That seems to be correct, I do have sound it's just that PA isn’t configured correctly.

pgrep -a pulse does nothing:

 21 Jun 17 @ 14:33:42 ~
   $ pgrep -a pulse
17949 /usr/bin/pulseaudio --start --log-target=syslog

 21 Jun 17 @ 14:33:52 ~
   $

Still no sound

Re: [Solved] No sound with Pulse Audio

I just need to see the output of `pacmd list-sinks` from the live system so I can compare it with the working version, this should show us how to use `pacmd` to make the change we need.

In the scrot above the HDMI output is selected, does the analogue output (the one at the top) work?

Also, how are your speakers connected?

Are you using the HDMI output from your soundcard or not?

EDIT:

S11 wrote:

No, it did exactly as it should and displayed the full name and flags of the process that matched the search term  8)

Your sound works fine with PA, you should probably apologise to Mr. Poettering for maligning his wonderful software for all these years  8o

If I recall correctly . yes - but in mono.  Remember, I don't have sound at the moment ... in QasMixer I put it back to [2ch] and deleted it, to do this properly.

OK, this is the sort of thing that really needs to go in the OP.

Please describe the exact nature and layout of your sound system.

Bear in mind that I have never owned a desktop computer and I have no idea how one would extract sound from such a device so please explain things in as much detail as possible.
