Have you tried powertop?
I have now, thanks very much man! Conky was responsible for a lot of wake-ups so I told it to chill down a bit.
Stickin to BL for now, thanks to you.

@soocki ... your conky couldn't have been that bad.
Agree, point taken, it doesn't hurt though to tell it to relax, I am after a relaxed environment after all.
I got rid of the thermald all together since it wasn't doing its job. Not sure what it was doing, not taking it for a free ride. My-way or no-way.
Next step is to tweak that powertop tool following Head_on_a_Stick advice, it seems extremely fit for the job.

^ I was making a joke - as I'm sure you are aware.
Curious as to what you meant by: "I told it to chill down a bit" and "tell it to relax" though, it's really peaked my interest.
This, IMHO, qualifies for inclusion in BL Quotes:

That my friend I wasn't aware. Can Conky be that bad? I suppose it can if it's too busy. I just came out of the forest you see and I was in it for quite a few years so excuse lack of manners.

Ah not much, increased it's timeout to 4 seconds is all.

I detected no lack of manners ... eating meat off the wooden table with a knife is perfectly OK, now the glass table ....
OH yea, conky has the capability of sucking up cpu %age cycles big time if you use too many ${exec(pi) ...} commands. Visit the weather thread by TeoBigusGreekus - for the most part those script purr along ... but combine a couple of them for a mega conky and OOPS!
It's one of the reasons I like conky v1.9 with it's ${pre_exec ...} command for things that don't need updating. Mind you ${exec(pi) 86400 ...} (update daily) does about the same but conky still has to check that. Those two commands cause conky to "chill out" a bit too.

Too obvious - that's why I missed it. forest - trees type thing.

Somehow I missed your post Sector11 Sorry mate, I was busy with openNIC in the mean time so didn't check back regularly.
Anyhow, my quest for a more relaxed environment continues, have 'thinkfan' in action and I am able to set threshold values for the fan to kick in. This however is not a remedy to the issue. My system simply produces too much heat and increasing the thresholds does not make much difference in the end. I can keep increasing them, eventually I will have nothing to worry about, just fry the damn thing
The last thing to try is:
Finally, BunsenLabs can be stripped down further from the stock system; ...
And that is where I intend to focus my efforts on. Sometimes I prefer to start from blank and build up from scratch instead of digging up stuff I did not put in in the first place, that way I know what I am looking for, or at least have a fair idea what it is. That is why my old system was so efficient I think. Bare minimum of tools I needed to get along and none of the overhead processes.
