#! User moving forward

Hello all,

I'll start by saying I used #! on my Thinkpad W510 for a few(several?) years. I continued using it until recently when I decided to buy an SSD drive and add some ram instead of buying a new computer. So here's my question. I have my #! drive intact with all of the settings and monkeying about that I have done... I'm now on Mint with LXDE and hate it. It's like eating at a buffet... all of the crowd and no good food. I'd like to know if there is a list of "applications for the desktop" that were in #! so that if I use this distro, I can copy them over. Is there a list of how to modify OpenBox to replicate the old #!? I know there is tint2 and conky, but it seems like there was much more..

An aside.. I'd be open to help developing a doc that helps people do this if that is helpful.

Yep, there's a very detailed list. It's called Bunsenlabs gnu/Linux.

For real, the nixers here have carried on in the finest #! tradition. The whole reason BL exists. Recently tried Hydrogen and was pretty much classic #!.

Only personally feel its better. There's more good people behind BL vs #! which was a one man show and Corenominal had long been showing signs of burnout prior to announcing #! was being discontinued. Whereas the people here are more engaged/active.

Anyway long babbling way of saying read the BL release notes, am sure you'll find majority of the apps and utilities used in #! still present.

Or visit the BL distrowatch listing and do the same.

afaiu, BL is designed to also work as a desktop environment package that can be installed on any system.
please search the forums, there's a very recent thread titled "BL on ubuntu" i think. or "bunsenlabs on ubuntu".
since mint is 99% ubuntu, it should be helpful.

I set up a bunsenified Mint Mate system, by installing Openbox and the appropriate bl-* scripts, some of which need editing BTW. The OB menu.xml and rc.xml also needed editing to use the equivalent mate-* utilities that uses.

The BL scripts and skel files etc are all available on our github repo.
