BL on Ubuntu?

Since some apps don't like Debian out of the box, and the company behind them just tell me to install Ubuntu, I'd like to do a Ubuntu-BL hybrid (BLUbuntu?).

I know I can install from package, by adding the

deb http://pkg.bunsenlabs.org/debian bunsen-hydrogen main

repository.

However, the package are for Debian, and I know one of Debian's rules is "Don t do a Frankendebian".

It also seems there is a ubuntu version:

deb http://pkg.bunsenlabs.org/ubuntu bunsen-hydrogen main

, that I discovered by trial and error (didn't saw any doc about it, just tried and it seems to work).

However, some package are missing:

W: The repository 'http://pkg.bunsenlabs.org/ubuntu bunsen-hydrogen Release' does not have a Release file
E: Failed to fetch http://pkg.bunsenlabs.org/ubuntu/dist/bunsen-hydrogen/main/binary-i386/Packages 404 Not Found
E: Failed to fetch http://eu.bunsenlabs.org/ubuntu/dist/bunsen-hydrogen/main/i18n/Translation-en 404 Not Found

Should I worry about that? Should I even use the ubuntu repository for that? Is the FrankenDebian only when you install Ubuntu package on Debian, and installing Debian packages on Ubuntu fine?

Also, bunsen-meta-all doesn't exist on that repo. Nor any bunsen package, but the apt-get update command only throw on thoses two lines...

a) There is no ubuntu pool @ https://pkg.bunsenlabs.org/ubuntu ("does not have a Release file"). We only have /debian.

Ah, should have guessed that from the error.

b) You might have some success running BL packages under Ubuntu 16.04 or 14.04/14.10/15.04/15.10.

If I do that, it will be on 16.04, heard that it was starting that version that they removed the Amazon integration.

c) This configuration is unsupported, and untested,  and there are no guarantees: YMMV.

So I would be better off starting with a Ubuntu netinstall, installing Openbox, tint2 and conky, and pull only the themes from BL?

I did it with Mint+Mate, then installed OB, tint2, conky, themes, pipemenus etc. I had to manually adjust many of the menu entries and pipemenus to use the equivalent mint apps (some of the utilities are pretty neat smile ).

Re: BL on Ubuntu?

Okay, I had the time to set up a minimal Ubuntu VM and mess with it. I can install Openbox, tint2 and conky, then startx without problem, but no way to install light-locker nor lightdm without startx not recognizing my display anymore...

Re: BL on Ubuntu?

^ Surely you use startx instead of lightdm. Or do you want to use lightdm instead? If so then set systemd to boot to the graphical display manager...

sudo systemctl set-default graphical.target

To revert to a console login...

sudo systemctl set-default multi-user.target

If one day I push this project far enought to have the right to decide of that kind of thing, I think I would pronounce it blu-buntu, just like you pronounce ku-buntu smile

And since with that pronounciation it sound like Blue Buntu, I would probably make a blue theme the default smile

But that will wait the time I have at least a hack of the netinstall script that work on ubuntu wink
