…that'd be a thing for which full-disk encryption would be useful, no? Can Bitlocker be applied to only a partition and coexist with Linux?

I'm in the UK so I don't mess around with crypto — if the Police had my laptop and I forgot the password, I would go to jail sad

Anyway, I would never store anything important on a computer, that would just be silly neutral

I want to believe this is a joke ... but have the horrible gut feeling that it's not.  sad

Now that's GREAT advice!

Re: ISO building notes

Installed CD and i386 on two laptops, and amd64 in a new lvm partition right here on the Main Machine.
Of course I haven't checked every nook and cranny, but install went smoothly, menu looks OK and bl-welcome did its thing in each case. Fingers crossed...

Re: ISO building notes

I'm going to be away (again, sorry) for 3 days from tomorrow. Back Saturday.

If you feel like making the official release during that time, please go ahead! We're already a bit late here IMO.

with the sha256 sums above to check with, can you just pull the iso files from Google Drive?
If you'd prefer I send them to you directly, please refresh my memory of the appropriate commands, but it'll have to be today or Saturday. Also, please of course rename them to fit our current naming scheme.

please be careful not to confuse the latest builds with the ones that were posted in the RC thread. In fact, I'll edit that OP and add the new iso details.

Re: ISO building notes

So, the release is prepared; torrents created and functional @ https://ddl.bunsenlabs.org/ddl; ISOs are named like here: https://kelaino.bunsenlabs.org/ddl/bl-D … 56sums.txt; all our 3 servers are prepared to seed the new Hydrogen refreshment.

All that remains is to announce & update the website. Tell me to update the website here; I'll do that and then you can put out the announcement.

Yes. I don't have time to announce today.

Re: ISO building notes

I suppose at this point in time there's little reason to hold everything and do yet another three iso builds to take in the latest batch of Debian upgrades?
https://www.debian.org/News/2017/20170506

It would save users from some post-install upgrades, but it would be extra work for me (who both have other things to get on with). Is it worth it?

Re: ISO building notes

^ the spip CVE's look nasty but they would be sorted out as soon as bl-welcome runs.

Maybe issue a reminder to upgrade the system after installation?

Re: ISO building notes

spip isn't in the default iso package list, so users would be installing the latest version anyway.

bl-welcome gets started once automatically on the first login, and immediately proposes an upgrade, but of course users can always decline, and forget about it...

I guess the improvement of baking Debian 8.8 into the isos would be mainly cosmetic. After a while, all new installs would need post-install upgrading anyway.

Re: ISO building notes

I vote:  Do it now, let users grab what is needed in their first update - upgrade.
