Oddball babbling about synaptics touchpad.

OK babble back story, installed Stretch to dork with. Went with a really minimal setup, laptop touchpad worked but no tap to click. Had to use the actual left/right buttons on the touchpad to select-etc.

Eventually got around to Bunsifying, installed openbox + tint2, copied over the default config files to usual location in ~/.config/openbox and at some point added synaptics to the autostart file.

Tap to click working while in openbox, not other places, such as the lightdm login screen. Ok this stunk, time to fire up google.

Visit Arch wiki found reference to the default config file being kept at /usr/share/x11/xorg.conf.d/70-synaptics.conf and said a nixer could copy this file to /etc/x11/xorg.conf.d and edit it to their liking.

Believe I had to create the xorg.conf.d directory then move the afore-mentioned file there and edit it. Found a config from a #!'er showing good suggested configs. Changed them a tad and done.

So end result touchpad began working in everything system-wide. Removed synaptics from the openbox autostart file, touchpad still working fine.

Not sure where I'm going with this fellows, so will shut it. Comments, questions, concerns, you just feel like babbling a bit too ? All such things welcome.

Debian stretch has switched from synaptics to libinput but you can still use the old driver, as you have found.

The jury still seems to be out on whether libinput will do the job in Stretch or not. It might depend on your hardware too.

Thanks guys, had seen mention of the switch. At the time was just concerned about getting the touchpad working up to snuff, so didn't spent time researching much.

Was pleased by the results and figured I'd share/ask.

^ I think your OP does illustrate quite nicely what BunsenLabs provides for the end users: the sort of background pre-configuration that can be time-consuming and even irritating for some.
