[SOLVED] Canon MG3222: scanning functionality

I've just been given this device. Is it possible to use it as a scanner only?
I think it's configured OK...the system (Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop) sees it. But pressing the scanner button causes nothing to happen. Any suggestions? Thnx.

Have you got sane installed? And there is a gui called simple-scan.

If it's supported by libsane. Just connect the device and open xsane, or use GIMP with the sane plugin – if the scanner is properly detected (allmost all kinds of scanners are), just use it as one.

Additionally, you can also try scanner button daemon scanbd.
I've never used it myself, I prefer xsane.

Thanks for the responses. Yep, xsane and Gimp are making it happen.
