A new terminator appears behind any other terminators that are running. https://bugs.launchpad.net/terminator/+bug/1646437
There is a fix upstream, but in the meantime a workaround is to disable opening via DBus server. Either start terminator with "-u/--no-dbus" switch, or add "dbus = False" to the '[global config]' section in '~/.config/terminator/config'

I noticed that but ignored it... thanks for the workaround!

Hmm I noticed this, but when I opened the terminal it opened behind the "Welcome Menu" (aka the text file right now) so I figured the "Welcome Menu" was meant to take windowing priority over everything. Looking at that bugs.launchpad, though it says that it only affects terminator opening other terminator windows... I could have sworn I saw this happening with other applications... hmm either way it's not a huge nuisance Thanks for the heads up though!
