Helium Themes (and Wallpapers)

These are themes I've made based on Greybird that are compatible with stretch's libgtk-3.0 (3.22.8) which BunsenLabs Helium will use...

https://github.com/hhhorb/bunsen-themes-dev

These GTK3 themes are NOT backwards compatible with BL Hydrogen / Debian jessie, AFAIK.

Here are wallpapers to match...

https://github.com/hhhorb/bunsen-wallpapers

Feel free to use them! Feedback and/or suggestions are welcome, just don't be offended if I choose not to implement any of them. tongue

This is my repo, nothing has been decided on for Helium yet.

Re: Helium Themes (and Wallpapers)

Many thanks for this!

I'd like to incorporate one of these in the helium-dev netinstall script instead of Arc.
I like the black one a lot, but maybe "softwaves" would be a good default choice?

Re: Helium Themes (and Wallpapers)

Thanks for this H3, the dark theme is particularly nice.

Re: Helium Themes (and Wallpapers)

thanks!

i read:
"Note that these themes are not built with "dark" varieties. Please have that setting disabled in gnome-tweak-tool or gsettings."

but i can't find a definitive answer how to disable that? with gsettings?
the closest i found was this.

why would it need to be disabled anyway? are some apps proactively looking for a dark variant and fail if they don't find it?

Re: Helium Themes (and Wallpapers)

@Dobbie, I thought you might like Blackish.  wink

@johnraff, I still recommend having a dark-text/light-bg theme OOTB due to the opposite scheme having problems in some programs, like GIMP and Firefox.

@ohnonot, you would probably know if you had enabled a GTK3 theme's dark variant. It's a GNOME thing, there's a switch in gnome-tweak-tool. It can also be activated via a gsettings command or in a settings.ini file. See this comment and the one 2 posts up...
https://github.com/BunsenLabs/bunsen-th … -285163502

Thanks for mentioning that, I guess the note is not needed. I should remove it and add the Firefox form fix for Blackish, and the 2 tips for disabling "overlay scrollbars" in all GTK3 themes...

Re: Helium Themes (and Wallpapers)

@damo has a wallpaper also based on the stretch "softWaves" artwork...

You can guess which theme might look OK with it. wink

Re: Helium Themes (and Wallpapers)

The dark one is nice, but I wish the very dark lines in Thunar were just dark grey instead of black.

Re: Helium Themes (and Wallpapers)

"Softwaves" - my only comment so far is that I find the dark active title bars a bit too much. Lighten them up a bit?

Re: Helium Themes (and Wallpapers)

@john, you must mean in the Openbox theme? Sure.

All the OB themes from Hydrogen work in stretch. I'll update the GTK and notification themes so those color schemes will be available too. I guess I should rename them slightly to emphasise that they don't work in jessie. Bunsen-Dark to Helium-Dark would work, then I'd have a naming scheme set when GNOME breaks themes again.

I'd use an emoji if it wasn't so tragic.

Re: Helium Themes (and Wallpapers)

Yes the openbox theme.
I haven't tried to use these in Jessie, only a Stretch VM.

Re: Helium Themes (and Wallpapers)

@Mods, I responded to a post about 14 hours ago and now both posts are gone. I thought I had successfully posted, not accidentally deleted. Anyone know anything?

Apologies to the poster, thanks for the positive feedback!NM, that was in another thread, which I should merge with this one.

Re: Helium Themes (and Wallpapers)

I've updated Bunsen and Bunsen-Dark for Helium/stretch (and renamed them to avoid confusion), as well as added a couple of wallpapers and a matching theme. See the OP for the links to my GitHub repos.

@johnraff, if you still don't like the Openbox theme for SoftWaves, You can switch to Bunsen-He. wink

Re: Helium Themes (and Wallpapers)

@ututo, high praise from our logo creator, thanks!

I love the way dark themes look with certain wallpapers, but I use light ones all the time now. I find them more usable (GIMP, Meld...) and less eye fatiguing.

Our forum members are big fans of The Dark Side, though.

I'm taking a break from Greybird now, I have a request from @nobody to tackle Arc. big_smile

^ you're welcome!

Actually, I like that idea too. I'm using a tweaked version of Arc-Grey.

Re: Helium Themes (and Wallpapers)

I know I'm a bit late to the game by saying this but the Bunsen-Blue-Dark is theme is superb!  I've only now tried it out in bl-hydrogen-20160710 and it's a huge improvement over the previous bl-hydrogen release.  All the issues I had with unreadable black-on-black-text boxes (notably in the browser) seem to have been eradicated and massive improvements to the browser style when using this theme are really appealing.  Currently, I can't think of any further suggestions on how to improve this theme.  I hope that it will be just as good and can be easily carried over to Helium given that there are likely to be gtk updates in the next release, which could potentially affect its appearance.

Well done to those who worked on the dark themes and the improvements they have made to them.  Good work!

Re: Helium Themes (and Wallpapers)

^ I appreciate it, but I don't think there have been any updates to any of the hydrogen themes. Any improvements in your browser are due to browser updates, I'm sure.

What browser do you use?

Re: Helium Themes (and Wallpapers)

2 more themes, RainForest (to match the BL-rainForest wallpaper) and Crocus-Remix...
https://github.com/hhhorb/bunsen-themes-dev
https://github.com/hhhorb/bunsen-wallpapers

I haven't uploaded the Crocus wallpaper because I have no idea what license it might have, you can download it here instead...
https://wall.alphacoders.com/big.php?i=682750

I've been using gtk3-nocsd without issues and recommend it, see the ReadMe.

I haven't tested Crocus or Bunsen-Blackish-Remix very much as I'm not  working at night ATM.

Please post any bugs you find. Thanks!
