[sdc] asking for cache data failed

Hello All,

I'm not a very computer savvy person, especially when it comes to all the technical terms and what not for hardware and software. I appreciate your patience in this matter when perhaps explaining what the problem may be.

I'm running Ubuntu from a USB drive that was given to me. I have no experience installing or working with Ubuntu extensively except for being able to navigate the interface. I use this USB to maintain business documents and work related documents.

Anyway the problem started when I was trying to open a rather large file the system crashed. The file was a truecrypt disc volume. When I restarted the system (booting from my USB) There appeared a box that said-

-- "The system is running in low-graphics mode" below that there was a message that read

---"Your screen, graphics card, and input device settings could not be detected correctly. You will need to configure these yourself"

Once I click "ok" (which is the only option" in the dialogue box, another dialogue box appears and asks---"what would you like to do" No matter which option I select (for example if I select 'Exit to console login' or 'Run in low-graphics mode for just one session') the screen just turns black with a cursor blinking in the top left corner and about every minute or so I get the message, which reads something like--

[  310.810778] sd 6:0:0:0: [sdb] Asking for cache data failed
[  310.810854] sd 6:0:0:0: [sdb] Assuming drive cache: write through

The it goes on to continue to repeat that message over and over and over, until the whole screen of filled with them. The only change is that the numbers on the far left of the message seem to change with the appearance of each message.

Is there anyway to fix this issue? Is there anyway to bypass this screen?

If there is, please explain it to me like I'm 5...because that's exactly the kind of computer vocabulary I have, a 5 year olds.

Anyway, I appreciate any help that anyone might be able to offer.

ZL

Re: [sdc] asking for cache data failed

It sounds like perhaps the USB stick has been damaged by the crash.

If you have another GNU/Linux system available then you can try this guide:

https://www.maketecheasier.com/repair-c … ive-linux/

If you only have Windows, you can try this command (with Administrator privileges!):

chkdsk /X /f X:

Replace X: with the actual drive letter assigned to the USB stick, you can use the File Explorer to find this wink
