Hmm... that's a bit strange. Maybe dpkg "respected" your decision to remove some files from /etc/lightdm by not replacing them with the upgrade? Did you see any "OMINOUS WARNING" message when upgrading bunsen-configs? I think you should have got one because the package seems to have failed to create the symlink from lightdm-gtk-greeter.conf to lightdm-gtk-greeter.conf.bunsen. ( the latter file does not exist for you though sad )

Well stuff under /etc is regarded as the province of the sysadmin so dpkg is reluctant to mess with what it sees as a decision by him/her. Regardless of that, I don't understand why /usr/share/lightdm/lightdm.conf.d/50_bunsen.conf hasn't been installed. If you have the time, could you run 'dpkg -L bunsen-configs' to see what dpkg thinks bunsen-configs has installed?
