Re: VLC - Video

Try disable compositing by killing/stopping the compton program: https://forums.bunsenlabs.org/viewtopic … 144#p32144.

Alternatively, if the problem is due to e.g. trying to play 1080p or 4k video on a very old laptop, look into using hardware-accelerated decoding of video if it is supported by your integrated GPU, through vaapi: https://wiki.videolan.org/VLC_VAAPI/.

Re: VLC - Video

Or the hardware might be too new to be supported by the stock Jessie video stack. But only you can tell us the model and year of your laptop.

Hello.
This is my laptop: https://www.snapdeal.com/product/dell-i … 2794688286

I tried to install VAAPI but links dont working in that guide. I find out that when the vlc window is small then the playback is fine but if i go fullscreen then the playback is totally lagging.

Re: VLC - Video

The video stack in BL is a little old for that hardware but it can be updated, to a degree (the Xorg version will still be old but the Intel drivers will be newer).

Guide here:

Ah, it is a new model.

You can follow HoaS suggestion to upgrade the graphics stack as far as possible under Debian Jessie by leveraging backports, or upgrade straight to Debian testing (which is soon to become Debian Stretch) which has newer graphics stuff. Besides Stretch or Jessie backports, you could look at Ubuntu 16.10 for an up-to-date, Debian-like OS.

As a general guideline, in 2014 I bought a then-new Intel Haswell laptop, installed literally the latest Linux kernel and graphics stack, and just last week with the upgrade to Xserver 1.19 I still noted a noticeable bump in graphics performance – it always pays to get the latest graphics stuff when on Linux.

And a more general suggestion: Use mpv.

Re: VLC - Video

I have just forked the bunsen-netinstall script and changed the package list so that it will install correctly:

I followed the guide provided from Head. Fixed my video problem but messed up with my wifi firmwares. Tryied to reconfigure them but no luck.

Ah, my condolences hmm

Please post the *exact* commands that you used.

You should also post the *full* output of the commands, especially in the case of any error messages.

To identify your device, see this guide:

Re: VLC - Video

HoaS may correct me, but it seems you don't have the linux headers installed for that kernel. (Google that module build error message wink )

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install linux-headers-$(uname -r)
