How can a person determine exactly what a key is for?
Some are up in your face obvious, others are about as clear as black letters on a black wall on a foggy night with no lights.
Here's my keys I am ??? about - with {notes}
06 Nov 16 @ 19:57:18 ~
$ sudo apt-key list
[sudo] password for sector11:
/etc/apt/trusted.gpg
--------------------
pub 1024D/7FAC5991 2007-03-08 { no a freaking clue }
uid Google, Inc. Linux Package Signing Key <linux-packages-keymaster@google.com>
sub 2048g/C07CB649 2007-03-08
pub 4096R/D38B4796 2016-04-12 { no a freaking clue }
uid Google Inc. (Linux Packages Signing Authority) <linux-packages-keymaster@google.com>
sub 4096R/640DB551 2016-04-12 [expires: 2019-04-12]
pub 2048R/0244C327 2016-03-07 [expires: 2018-05-16] { palemoon browser }
uid home:stevenpusser OBS Project <home:stevenpusser@build.opensuse.org>
{the rest are bunsen and Debian and very clear}
Point is I'm wide-eyed as to why I have google keys here
I hate google ... I cannot remember ever putting those there.
Is there w way to find out what they are for?
I already know about:
sudo apt-key del <KEYCODEHERE>
so that's not a problem.

Do you have Flash installed?
IIRC, the Debian package installs libflashplayer.so by downloading Google Chrome Stable ( ) and extracting it from that -- it would need the gpg keys to verify the download.
EDIT: I meant libpepflash.so and the PepperFlashPlayer, obviously :8

The google keys are for authenticating pepperflash packages.
Otherwise, you need to use your good judgement and sleuthing skills to figure out what a particular key is for…:)

And for the third one, I'll take a wild guess it is related to a downloaded of the palemoon web browser from stevenpusser's uber-awesome repository of Debian packages he has backported.

Ooh! Ooh! Guilty as charged--that's the key for the first repo i set up on the OBS that have led to the rest--Pale Moon. (though I did accidently nuke it and had to rebuild it from scratch, leading to a key change)
TODO: find out how to enable their advertised Stretch repository, since I know how to build PM on it now with gcc-4.9 (it dies with gcc-5 currently)

@ HoaS Yea I have flash - but pepperflash plugins.
@ nobody thanks for confirming that. I'm not 'flash happy' but the Mrs. is for her games.
Wish html5 could handle .swf games.
@tyman and stevep - YUP, that's Palemoons key
... first repo? Is that why it died?
key change huh ... bummer - more work to do.
OK thanks guys guess they stay.
