Sounds like proprietary Russian OS.  ("In Capitalist Russia, system operates you!")  Vladimir probably thinks it will make it harder for foreign agencies to counter-hack their systems.

Sorry about the above, but we can't talk about politicians without bringing up politics.

Re: Cool Random Internet Stuff

So French is my second language, and I've never read Harry Potter in French, so I found this list of translations of names and more "made-up" words in the books. It's simultaneously hilarious and very, very creative, especially where preserving anagrams and finer shades of meaning are concerned.

The servant lifted off a kind of ottoman a long peacock-blue drapery, rather of the nature of a domino, on the front of which was emblazoned a large golden sun, and which was splashed here and there with flaming stars and crescents. “You’re to be dressed as Thursday, sir,” said the valet somewhat affably.

Re: Cool Random Internet Stuff

some of those words/terms/names are multilayered quibbles (look that one up, it existed before harry potter) and probably equally difficult & fun to translate.

Re: Cool Random Internet Stuff

i really expected this one to go in the direction of "whether the philosopher under the bed exists or not, that is the question".
but a grey-faced, maniacal-depressed sartre monster is funny enough in itself.

don't know what to make of these comics.
i really like some of them, but the "didn't get the joke" clicky-thingy is hideously schoolmasterly, and by just being there always spoils ~10% of the fun (without clicking it of course).

I use exclusively "LastPass".  It's been vetted by my security guru Steve Gibson from grc.com, all encryption is done locally. And Lastpass has no knowledge of your password details. Plus it comes with some good password generation tools, and 'secure notes' where you can make encrypted notes and information.

Re: Cool Random Internet Stuff

omitted the gruesome fact that a parent (let's be PC about it ;-) kills all their children before dying.
despite the drama, at least an orphaned kid still has a chance in this world!

so i demand the opposite:
"Give orphans a chance! End the slaughter! Use SIGKILL instead of SIGTERM!"

Re: Cool Random Internet Stuff

Additionally you guys produce some excellent Malbec. Kudos to the Argentines!

Plus, I've always wanted to go to a rock concert in Argentina because I hear you have the best crowds.

Well, I haven't had a drink in over 30 years and been here for 17 so I can't attest to the Melbec here.  As for the rock concerts - no thank you, I prefer staying away from knife fights, gun fights and flying beer bottles.  smile
