No external device audio with 3.16.0-4-amd64 kernel [SOLVED]

Hi all, as the title says, I haven't been able to hear anything when I plug an external device (neither headphones nor anything else) since I did a fresh install of BunsenLabs (64bit), which ships with 3.16.0-4-amd64 kernel. Built-in speakers do work.
I tried grsec-amd64 kernel and sound does work as it should, but most of the applications won't even launch (namely, those which can connect to the Internet). Others, like Inkscape or GIMP work flawlessly.
For what I've learned, grsec is a kernel for hardening security, I just tried installing it before I knew that (yeah, I know how n00bish that is).
I tried BunsenLabs advanced options in GRUB, and selected the old 3.16.0-4-amd64 kernel to get Firefox, Terminator and the like to work, but the sound is obviously lost.
I'd like to hear suggestions as to what's next in order to have both audio and Internet applications working at the same time.
So far, everything had worked out-of-the-box since the good ol' Crunchbang times, so I never had to worry about switching kernels. Pardon my inexperience.

Thanks in advance.

Have you tried https://forums.bunsenlabs.org/viewtopic.php?id=1257?

grsec-patched kernels are great for the paranoid but they can be a complete PITA for "normal" desktop usage smile

Wow, that was quick! I'll follow your guide. You confirmed what I thought.
With a little bit of AlsaMixer the issue was [SOLVED].

Thank you, again.

EDIT: New kernel installed was 4.7.0-0.bpo.1-amd64
