Re: Help! The systray volume icon doesn't work!

Thank you,
Worked perfectly on my ASUS 1011PX, Though it didn't fixed the "low volume at max on the loud speaker": It is an hardware issue (the speaker is Dead)

+ doesn't work either on my VirtualBox guest (although sound is enabled on the host and the software)

Re: Help! The systray volume icon doesn't work!

Thank you. Worked perfectly---once I had re-installed BL and had a fresh canvas instead of the mixed mess (part sid, part BL, part... a few other things!) that I had.
I shan't be running a mixed system again in the near future.

Thanks for this fix. I worked through the forums and 'fixed' volti quite a few times in the last six months, but it would never last. Anything that works is a big improvement.

Unstickying this since we switched to Volumeicon some time ago.

I don't care what you do at home. Would you care to explain?

Re: Help! The systray volume icon doesn't work!

How involved would it be to undo this?  Would it be as simple as commenting out or removing the line starting PulseAudio in ~/.config/openbox/autostart?  I'm using PNMixer.

Re: Help! The systray volume icon doesn't work!

Unless you have a reason not to use PulseAudio, I'd leave everything in openbox/autostart as it is, and just comment out the line that launches volumeicon-alsa.

Re: Help! The systray volume icon doesn't work!

If PulseAudio is removed, the file at /etc/asound.conf must also be deleted for the sound to work afterwards.

Also, if the machine has multiple soundcards (most modern laptops with HDMI outputs will have a multi-channel soundcard as well as stereo) then the default card will have to be set using other methods.

Re: Help! The systray volume icon doesn't work!

@John:  volumeicon-alsa purged in favor of backported pnmixer deb from HoaS.

The reason I ask is because I recently had to re-install BL on my desktop and it seems that the volume when playing music under Audacious is lower than it was previously.  However, the perceived lower volume may have something to do with the volume setting in Audacious.  I need to compare the Audacious volume setting on my desktop and laptop.

I also remember fiddling with ALSA vs PulseAudio when the lower volume issue appeared in the past.  Wish I had documented it because I can't remember what I did.

(BTW pnmixer is available in Debian Stretch, so it might be a candidate for re-inclusion in BL Helium.)
