The servant lifted off a kind of ottoman a long peacock-blue drapery, rather of the nature of a domino, on the front of which was emblazoned a large golden sun, and which was splashed here and there with flaming stars and crescents. “You’re to be dressed as Thursday, sir,” said the valet somewhat affably.

For my heart, the Doctor told me to 3 miles - everyday ...

(that was 2 years ago)

Now, I don't know where the heck I am.

that the one in northern spain?
so 1000miles means you walked it back and forth in its entirety, yes? respect.
i heard good things about it, like it's all paths (no roads), and the accomodation is really nice.
however, doing it in august, that sounds like penance to me...

Yeah, don't do it in August. 42 Celsius one day. Yucky. wink

I had the strangest dream yesterday.  I dreamt I was an Appaloosa.

Not sure what it means besides 'Murican pony...

Why?

Well, it's something I've wanted to do for a while, and I had the time to do it, so I took the opportunity smile

I think the question is why you came back home  ]:D .

Because home is where the WiFi connects automatically wink

Also because having time to shower properly and having access to a beard trimmer is nice tongue

Dentists...

I lost my last wisdom tooth today.
it was months in the coming, but today it happened.
Here's the story:
procedure starts ... jabs of pain when trying to dislocate the tooth with some kind of metal wedge.
dentist: ok, i'll take another patient while we wait for the anesthetization to take.
so that was 20 extra minutes, literally sweating with fear.
after that, yes, i was anesthetized. follows a 15min phase of alternatively trying to dislocate the tooth with one of those metal wedges, or very normal (as in car repair) looking pliers.
...
dentist says: god, this one's really tight. not sure what to do next. assistant, can you pass me the bigger pliers?
...
well, it came out in the end.

after hours of bleeding, i am now happy in a cloud of painkillers.

PS:
in this country, (most) dentists are public servants, not entrepreneurs.

PPS:
if this isn't off topic, then i don't know what is. thank you for reading.

Personal opinion, garnered through experience;
Any dentist that says "lets wait and see" to their patients, no matter how trivial the case, should be taken outside and shot (preferably in the mouth, to make it poetic). You go there with pain bad enough that it prevents you from sleeping at night, and the twat says "let's wait a few days and and see how it develops"??!! How about I break your nose and then the both of us "wait and see" together?!! How does that sound!!

you said it.
imagine how i felt when she said "ok, i'll just quickly take another patient until the aneaesthetic takes full effect".
after she already started digging around the root, resulting in severe pain.
i thought: hmm, what if she decides that it's better to make a new appointment (some time next week or next month), after all?

thankfully it all went well now, tooth's gone, and i got a chance to experience multiple painkiller + alcohol intoxication...

You did not get a (local) anesthetic before the procedure? When I had mine removed (dentists here are very proactive about having them removed), I got a local anesthetic before both procedures (first one side, then the other).

It all went perfectly, except for the fact that for some reason one of the wounds got infected. The hole left by the tooth was filled with puss and whatnot, so they had to cut it open and scoop it empty. That all wouldn't be so bad, if the anesthetic that they had given me that time would've worked. I vividly remember laying in the chair squirming and the nurse asking "are you alright?" as if I could answer the question with all the tools in my mouth!

yes i did. a lot. but it took quite long to take full effect.

yes, they tend to do that.

Re: Completely Off Topic Chat

Had my wisdom teeth out (they were coming in impacted) all at once when I was in the army.  Don't know if the state of local anesthetic technology has improved since then, but while it dulled the pain, it did nothing for the pressure, which was excruciating.

There should be universal hand signals for those situations.

Re: Completely Off Topic Chat

I had a mouth full of metal implements, and 2 students who paused to discuss what they were doing that evening. I reached out from under the cloth, poked one of them. and gestured a hurry-up. He was apologetic afterwards!

i think the aneasthetic only deals with the pain.
the pain is one thing, but the feeling of somebody pulling something out of your skull is torture in itself.

anyhow, i ran into difficulties: the hole left by the tooth should fill up with clotted blood, but it doesn't. the bone is lying bare, and even drinking lukewarm water is painful. today i went to the dentist again, and, well, warning, explicit content ahead: the usual way in cases like this is to simply scratch the wound until it starts bleeding again. basically, recreating the experience of pulling the tooth, almost from zero.
nice.
thing is, this was in the morning, and now, in the evening, situation is back to what it was yesterday (i can actually see the hole quite well with a small flashlight, and its definitely not filled by clotted blood).
what next?
