jessie-backports held during upgrade?

Hey guys,

Just noticed during my regularly scheduled maintenance that most of my nvidia packages were held back. These are jessie-backports packages. As an experiment I tried a dist-upgrade and everything went off without a hitch. Is this expected behavior?

Yes.

If the dependencies have changed on one of the packages you have installed so that a new package must be installed to perform the upgrade, then that will be listed as "kept-back".

'dist-upgrade' will force the installation of those newer packages.

I think these would also work:

sudo apt upgrade
sudo aptitude upgrade

The heuristics used by those programs are slighly more advanced than `apt-get`'s sledgehammer approach.
