Re: [SOLVED] Plank dock - visual distortion

@atropos
Do you have intel graphics?

I just fixed it on my laptop machine (intel integrated graphics HD3000) after reading this post:
https://forums.bunsenlabs.org/viewtopic … 3621#p3621

I explicitly set SNA acceleration for X11 in a new xorg.conf.d as described.

Section "Device"
   Identifier "Intel Graphics"
   Driver "intel"
   Option "AccelMethod" "sna"
EndSection

Note sna instead of uxa (sna is a replacement for uxa).

I did not have an /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d file before this.

After a reboot, my indicator icon borders were gone. I don't know if the reboot was necessary.

I flipped the config back and forth between uxa and sna to check. I'm confident this was my issue at least. Hope it helps and thanks to HOAS.

Re: [SOLVED] Plank dock - visual distortion

I'm just wondering: How do you get the Chromium icon attached to the Plank dock?

Plank works fine otherwise, if I open something and click on the icon in Plank, it shows the "keep in dock" box, but somehow it is not the case for Chromium.

Re: [SOLVED] Plank dock - visual distortion

Bit of water under the bridge now and I no longer use openbox or plank. I hope someone will correct me but I vaguely remember creating a custom desktop file for each app in order to use alternative icons.

Anyone?

Never used plank but I seem to remember that Texan YouTube reviewer d00d simply opening the file manager & navigating to /usr/share/applications then dragging & dropping the icons from there to plank.

Brilliant, indeed, that worked! Thank you!!

@Red Is there something better than Plank? Since I discovered this simple yet fantastic dock, this is one of the tools I do not want to miss on a desktop...

Edit: I just noticed - if I add let's say the chromium icon to Plank via File Manager and right click on it, it shows the "keep in dock" check box (uncheck - disappeares). If I open chromium via openbox and click on the Plank icon, there is no check box. Anyhow, I can add it now, so no issue, just noticed.

I don't think so, - I think plank is a great dock for openbox. But I've switched to the i3 window manager and plank's no longer necessary for me.

My missus still logs into openbox with plank though. I would still use plank it if it behaved well with i3 as it would mean I'd never have to log out to let other people use my bunsen.  There are fundamental problems with the way i3 handles docks and/or how plank behaves which means they don't play nicely together (i3 reserves all the space required for plank regardless of whether it's showing or not).

But in openbox it's golden.

Re: [SOLVED] Plank dock - visual distortion

If it is the new plank  (0.11.2-1).  that went to vala - dconf-editor will work - unfortunately  quite the overkill.    If it is the new one, try Ctl-RightClick first for preferences.  Hope someone posts somenthing better.

aptitude search WHAT  oh my.

https://tracker.debian.org/news/785608  plank has left the building  - no maintaniner.

However Docky (which plank is based on) is still maintained

Try on irc.  freenode #plank
