BBCAM has been playing Star Trek III: The Search for Spock. I had forgotten that James Horner was rushed on the musical score of Aliens (dir: James Cameron) and used the same trumpet fanfare section used in Start Trek II and III (notably, when Ripley takes the driver's seat from Gorman and is busting back out of the complex after they get ambushed).
I couldn't find that clip, so let's watch the best work, by far, that Bill Paxton has ever had filmed.

James Horner discussing how he felt screwed by Cameron and his wife (at the time)...

lol Now they're playing Star Tek V. This is the film that nearly killed the franchise. Sybok, Jebus.
Kill the franchise film, I'd have guessed IV: The Voyage Home, that was a shlocky piece of crap (not counting TNG movies, almost all crap). But it had the right '80s humour for that Trekkie crowd, it made a ton of money.

Exactly my kind of humour (I'm not very funny). I spilt a bit of tea over it.

I liked that one ![]()
Isn't the rule that the even-numbered Star Trek films are the good ones?

It was playing on Multiplex commercial free, and it was an early Marisa Tomei film I hadn't seen ('94). I loved it..

Sorry; I thought something was off about that scene, but didn't bother to check. Original clip, for those who haven't seen the film recently:

Just watched Magnolia on account of the Tom Cruise character. Didn't like the film overall, and won't go into what I didn't like about it. The one thing that I did like was the fact that one of the books Stanley was studying in the library was written by Charles Fort, and the film's climax featured a massive Fortean event.

Finally watched the 1977 animated version of The Hobbit. Not bad. (The similarities between Smog's hoard and that of the dragon in "Dragonshy" are fairly obvious.) Still haven't seen the Peter Jackson adaptation though.

I'll have to watch that Hobbit version again. I bet I've seen it but it's not ringing any bells.

A shame Bakshi never made the second half of his LOTR film, the rotoscoping and art production were first-rate...

Now watching The Tao of Steve. Yes, because the same reasons as Hitch. Heavy emphasis on disqualifiers in Steve.
Wedding Crashers is on the same list as those two, but I'm not sure if I'll watch it.

The VVitch: A New England Folktale
Not at all what I was expecting, this is an attempt at a serious historical dramatic portrayal of Witchcraft in New England in the early 17th centuary.
Most of the film's dialogue is based on writings from the time, ably delivered by an outstanding cast and the film veers towards suspense and chills over outright gore and shocks (which is a Good Thing, imo).
I award this film 4 stars out of a possible 5 ![]()
