Why did backports fail, I wonder?

Just tested on a new VB installation (i386), and no problems with adding the Debian backports via bl-welcome. Has anyone had that problem?

And 40 minutes for the install script?

That seems too long - maybe he installed everything with a slow processor and net connection.

I also wonder why his "About Bunsen Alternatives" menu item was broken.

That one I can confirm. The i386 iso (I haven't tested amd64) ships with bunsen-configs 8.7-1 and the helpfile path issue was fixed in 8.7.1-1 (May 9th).

Workaround: on a fresh BL install, with no user customization, after running bl-welcome, or just 'sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get upgrade', delete ~/.config/bunsen/bl-setup, log out and log in again.

Re: BunsenLabs Reviews

@johnraff and @hhh - I had a similar problem yesterday, only it was my own use of the Debian Wheezy Backports, instead of the recommended backport procedure for bunsenlabs. I fixed this and right away have had no problems encountered since.

EDIT: Previously had edited the /etc/apt/sources.list with:

# Wheezy Backport alternative
deb http://ftp.debian.org/debian wheezy-backports main

Then later, I commented this line out (with #'s)

What root menu? There are no icons at all AFAIK, except for the generic browser icon in tint2.

I think that we should include the xul-ext-iceweasel-branding package in Helium -- we would then be the only distribution still using Iceweasel cool

Also, the "I want firefox instead" threads would be much simpler smile

The menu entry and pipemenus.rc both have  "Iceweasel".

Re: BunsenLabs Reviews

Ah sorry all, I misread "label" for "icon". sad

Yes, we need to add "firefox" to the BROWSERS list in pipemenus.rc, and remove "iceweasel" I guess.

We could strike up a conversation here, stevepusser is great. It wouldn't need to be "official", but we could test each other's packages and reference each other's forum posts/solutions/etc...

Sounds good. Exchange ideas/problems/solutions... There are some points of similarity, though I don't know about going as far as merging the two (as a couple of people on the Mepis forum suggested). There are a lot of differences too.

BTW this Dedoimedo review of MX 15 is good reading for BunsenFolk too; I think it gives some good insights into how reviewers - and new users - look at a distro, and suggests some areas we might want to polish a bit, along with some things we might want to avoid.

Bunsen Labs "Hydrogen" - The young Debian variant succeeds the once popular distribution "CrunchBang", which was set with the release of Debian 8. Bunsen Labs is a current Debian system for purists with an extremely reduced, but elegant Openbox window manager.

I love the smell of a bunsen burner in the morning!

"Heft" in this case refers to the magazine.
"Heft-DVD" in this case means "The DVD included with the magazine".
So:
"You will find this on the DVD included with the magazine:"

btw, always interesting to hear what languages native english speakers learn in school.
