192.168.0.1 = connecting - forever!
192.168.0.2 = instant "Unable to connect"

and: Split - cuz you're right.

Sector, in my experience, it may be anything in the range 192.168.0.x, where x is between 1 to 254. Although 192.168.0.1 - as suggested by HOAS - would be the most logical, I would try few others.

On several routers, I saw following addresses for router web interface: 192.168.0.254 ...

It is a stab in the dark, and it probably won't work ...

I wanted to see if there was a way to check if someone is using my "WiFi" enabled part of my modem/router.

I don't think there is.

My only suggestion would be to set a strong password and enforce WPA2-only connections but it seems that you cannot do this.

If you could access it's configuration page, you'd also be able to find a log; I'm sure we have someone here who would be able to parse it and explain what it says about who's connecting and when.

Is it possible to ask your ISP to replace your router with one that only provides hardline access? #StatingTheSimpleSolution

Perhaps the web interface is only accessible from the wireless connection.

This guide seems to suggest so:

I don't think so, I think you misunderstood something from the link. Actually, it would be extraordinarily strange that you couldn't configure certain router with cable, but could do it by wireless. (Ordinarily, cable is fall-back option when you mess up something via wireless.)

@Sector: try to prefix web address you enter into browser with 'https://' (yet another stab in the dark), like this:

https://192.168.0.1

or

https://192.168.2.1

Futhermore: try to google 'acces arris router <company>', with your actual provider instead of <company>.

Re: How do I check if WiFi is being 'borrowed'?

could be
http://192.168.0.1 (also I'd check if your machine is connected to 1st hole)
Username: admin
Password: motorola
(If there is no login shown, contact your isp provider)

http://www.manualslib.com/manual/887489 … =20#manual

p.s.

Every attempt to get Fibertel to turn it off since then has fallen on deaf ears.

On the 2nd thought, change the provider.

I was thinking S11 may want to buy his own modem & router and be done with his ISP tech support. Not sure if that's allowed where he lives though.

What has happened to Sector? Did he lose his internet access completely?

He's been ill recently. Send him good thoughts. He hasn't told me much, other than that he's been to (the, freaking Brits) hospital for tests. At the risk of invading his privacy, he told me "things don't feel quite right."

"I'm not dead!"

Yes, I've seen that post ...

Anyway, I hope he is OK. And I hope he will repair his internet access.
